Senior Analytics Engineer

6 month contract role , Renewable . Location : Capetown . Role Overview The Senior Analytics Engineer leads the development and optimisation of analytics data models and pipelines, driving best practices in data modelling, quality, and software engineering. You’ll mentor team members and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver innovative analytics solutions. Key Responsibilities • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance analytics data architectures. • Expertly design relational, multi-dimensional, and domain-specific semantic models; apply advanced data normalisation. • Develop, optimise, and maintain analytics pipelines using dbt, SQLMesh, and similar tools. • Champion data quality frameworks (dbt tests, SodaCL), ensuring robust validation and monitoring. • Architect solutions for integrating and transforming complex data sources. • Write and review advanced SQL and Python code for analytics workflows. • Oversee the development of advanced dashboards and reports in Power BI and Excel. • Mentor junior analytics engineers and analysts, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration. • Lead adoption of Git, Azure DevOps/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and governance in distributed version control. • Work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver strategic analytics solutions. • Establish and maintain standards for documentation, data modeling, and pipeline development. • Expert knowledge of open table formats (Delta, Hudi, Iceberg), open lakehouse concepts, open catalogues (Unity Catalog), and data sharing protocols (Redshift Share, Delta Sharing). • Drive adoption and implementation of data mesh concepts and goals. Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. • 5+ years of experience in analytics engineering, data analytics, or related roles. • Expert proficiency in SQL, Python, data modelling, and data normalisation. • Extensive experience with dbt, SQLMesh, SodaCL, and data quality frameworks. • Advanced knowledge of BI tools (Power BI, Excel). • Proven experience with Git, Azure DevOps/GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and software engineering practices. • Deep understanding of open table formats, lakehouse concepts, open catalogs, and data mesh principles. • Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills. Preferred Skills • Certifications in analytics engineering, cloud, or software engineering. • Experience with cloud platforms and distributed data architectures. • Expert in relational, multi-dimensional modelling, and domain-specific semantic modelling. • Experience with data sharing protocols and open catalogs.
