Job description
DevOps Cloud Engineer
Hybrid | Permanent | Up to £45,000
At Target Group, we design and build platforms that power some of the UK’s most critical financial services. We’re not just about technology — we’re about people, partnerships and progress.
We’re looking for a DevOps Software Engineer with a passion for cloud engineering, automation and secure-by-design platforms. This role brings together expertise across AWS cloud infrastructure, DevOps engineering, networking and security, giving you the opportunity to shape highly scalable, resilient and secure cloud-native platforms.
We welcome candidates from a range of DevOps specialisms – whether your strength is AWS engineering, platform automation, cloud networking, security, or a blend of all four.
What’s it like to work here?
You’ll be part of a collaborative DevOps community that truly values engineering excellence and wellbeing.
Regular 1:1s with meaningful feedback on your contribution
Recognition for a job well done via our My Recognition portal
A supportive, fun culture where curiosity and innovation are encouraged
Clear pathways to grow and progress your career
Engineers trusted to design, automate and own solutions end to end
What will you be doing?
You’ll work as an embedded DevOps Software Engineer within our platform teams, designing, building and operating secure, scalable AWS environments.
Design and engineer AWS cloud platforms using services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS/Aurora, API Gateway and CloudFront, aligned to AWS Well-Architected principles.
Automate everything through CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation), enabling fast, reliable and repeatable delivery.
Build and operate modern platforms using containerised, serverless and microservice-based architectures.
Design and maintain cloud networking and connectivity, including VPCs, routing, transit gateways, hybrid VPNs and multi-account patterns.
Embed security-by-design, implementing IAM, encryption, firewalling, traffic inspection, WAF and Zero Trust aligned controls.
Ensure reliability and observability through effective monitoring, logging, alerting and incident response practices.
Optimise cloud performance and cost, applying FinOps best practices such as cost monitoring, rightsizing and savings plans.
What are we looking for?
You bring experience in:
AWS cloud services across compute, networking, storage and security
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation)
CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows
Containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS)
Scripting or programming (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
Cloud networking fundamentals (VPCs, routing, DNS, load balancers, firewalls)
Desirable (but not essential)
Experience with large-scale data or analytical platforms
Cloud security or network security engineering experience
Multi-cloud exposure (Azure or GCP)
Mentoring or technical leadership experience
AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, SysOps, Security, FinOps)
Knowledge of Zero Trust, SIEM/SOC or Control Tower environments
