About The Role The Senior Lead DevOps Engineer at BMO Financial Group plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the organization’s DevOps strategy. This leadership position involves designing, implementing, and optimizing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure to enhance the efficiency, security, and reliability of software delivery. The role requires leading a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of automation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will possess a deep technical expertise combined with strategic vision, enabling BMO to stay at the forefront of technological innovation in the financial sector. Qualifications The successful candidate will have over 10 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering, demonstrating a strong background in cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. Proficiency in CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps or AWS CDK is essential. Candidates should have extensive hands-on experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash, and a deep understanding of Linux/Unix systems and networking. Expertise in containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes is required. Certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or Azure DevOps Engineer are highly preferred. The role also demands excellent leadership skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively across teams. Responsibilities The Senior Lead DevOps Engineer will be responsible for defining and leading the organization’s DevOps strategy, including establishing best practices and roadmaps that align with business objectives. Mentoring and managing a team of DevOps engineers, promoting technical excellence and innovation, is a key aspect of this role. Collaborating with engineering, QA, security, and product teams to streamline delivery processes and foster a DevOps culture emphasizing automation, scalability, and reliability will be central to daily operations. The role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous integration and deployment, automating build, test, and deployment processes to enhance speed and consistency. Integrating security practices into pipelines (DevSecOps) and standardizing deployment strategies such as blue-green, canary releases, and rolling deployments are critical responsibilities. Managing cloud infrastructure across platforms like AWS and Azure, ensuring high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery, is essential. The engineer will optimize cloud costs and resource utilization, lead containerization efforts using Docker, and oversee container orchestration with Kubernetes or similar platforms, ensuring efficient deployment, scaling, and monitoring of microservices. Implementing monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions, driving Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices including SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, and troubleshooting production issues are integral to maintaining system health. Ensuring security and compliance through secure DevOps practices, vulnerability assessments, and security scanning tools will also be part of the role.
