JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
This position is responsible for leading the design, architecture, performance,
availability, and operational excellence of Starkey’s SQL Server database
platform, supporting mission‑critical, 24x7 business systems across Starkey HQ
and global facilities. The role emphasizes SQL Server database architecture,
operational maturity, and best‑practice implementation, while also providing
secondary support and cross‑training capabilities for Oracle databases and
Oracle E‑Business Suite (EBS) environments. The Senior Database Administrator
partners closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, and business
stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, high‑availability database solutions
that align with business objectives and IT standards.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS
* Primary responsibilities
* Serve as a senior technical authority for SQL Server database architecture,
design, and operations in a 24x7 production environment.
* Assess current SQL Server platforms and recommend improvements related to
architecture, configuration, availability, scalability, performance, and
security.
* Design and implement high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and
recovery solutions aligned with industry best practices.
* Lead SQL Server performance analysis, tuning, capacity planning, and
optimization initiatives.
* Plan and execute SQL Server upgrades, patching, maintenance plans, and
growth strategies.
* Establish and enforce IT standards for SQL Server database design,
deployment, and lifecycle management.
* Provide input into the technical roadmap for Starkey’s SQL Server database
platforms.
* Develop and maintain database health, performance, availability, and growth
reporting.
* Collaborate with business partners to translate business requirements into
well‑architected SQL Server database solutions.
* Respond to incidents and service requests efficiently, ensuring timely
resolution and high customer satisfaction.
* Participate in 24x7 on‑call rotation and support planned maintenance
activities.
* Create and maintain high‑quality technical documentation.
* Continuously improve processes, operational maturity, and customer service.
* Stay current on emerging database technologies, features, and best
practices.
* Mentor and coach team members as the Senior subject matter expert.
* Secondary Responsibilities:
* Provide secondary administration and operational support for Oracle
databases, including Oracle running on Linux.
* Support Oracle E‑Business Suite (EBS) application administration, including
coordination of patches, upgrades, and technical stack maintenance.
* Assist with Oracle backup/recovery, performance tuning, and monitoring as
needed.
* Participate in on-call, knowledge transfer, and operational backup within
the DBA team.
* Support Oracle‑related initiatives such as GoldenGate replication.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent
experience required.
Experience
* 8+ years field experience as SQL Server Administrator in a 24x7 production
business system setting.
* 8+ years field experience with database backup/recovery, performance
analysis, re-orgs, tuning, partitioning, patching and upgrading.
* 8+ years field experience performing database replication, shrinking,
troubleshooting and problem solving.
* 5+ years field experience supporting virtualized databases
* 2+ years field experience supporting DB’s on Azure
* 2+ years field experience supporting databases on Linux environments.
Knowledge / Technical Requirements
* Knowledge of database backup concepts, practices and procedures is required.
* Knowledge of database performance monitoring/management tools is required
(OEM, Spotlight, SolarWinds,)
* Knowledge of industry best practices on management of SQL/Oracle databases is
required.
* Knowledge of industry best practices on SQL and Oracle database backup and
recovery methods
* Knowledge of industry best practices of SQL and Oracle database security (all
aspects)
* Knowledge of scripting is required
* Knowledge of applicable Application/Reporting servers
* Knowledge of SDLC procedures is preferred
* Knowledge of Oracle GoldenGate is preferred
* Knowledge of Oracle EBS Apps and Database Administrator preferred

WORK CONTEXT
Working Conditions
* This is a five‑day‑a‑week, in‑office position.
* Participation in a 24x7 on‑call rotation is required; rotation frequency
varies based on team size.
* Weekend and holiday work may be required to support system upgrades,
application releases, and patching activities.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The target pay rate for this position is between $103,180 and $141,750 annually.
Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include:
geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the
successful candidate.
This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is
no guarantee of payout.
