TERMS OF REFERENCE
The consultant will closely work with the team in drafting, development, and
submission of scientific manuscripts based on BeSD study findings and related
programme evidence.
Specifically, the consultant will:
• Review and synthesise available study materials, datasets, reports, and
background documents from the eight BeSD country studies
• Develop structured outlines for each manuscript, including framing, research
questions, and key messages
• Draft eight country-specific manuscripts (one per study), ensuring clarity,
analytical rigour, and alignment with target journal requirements
• Develop one synthesising manuscript that consolidates cross-country findings,
identifies common patterns, and highlights implications for global immunization
policy and programming
• Conduct targeted literature reviews to strengthen positioning and
contextualisation of findings
• Develop figures, tables, and visualisations to support data presentation
• Incorporate feedback from UNICEF, partners, and co-authors across multiple
review rounds
• Support manuscript submission to peer-reviewed journals and respond to peer
reviewer comments through to publication
• Ensure all outputs are accessible, policy-relevant, and aligned with UNICEF’s
knowledge translation objectives

Minimum requirements:
Education Master’s degree in Social and Behaviour Science, Science
Communication, Scientific Writing or related field.
Work Experience: Minimum of 7–10 years of relevant professional experience in
scientific writing, research translation, or knowledge management in global
health, immunization, or related fields.
Demonstrated experience in drafting and publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts,
including leading or supporting submissions to high-impact journals.
Skills Strong understanding of behavioural and social drivers of health,
preferably in immunization, vaccine demand, or public health programming.
Proven ability to synthesise complex quantitative and qualitative data into
clear, concise, and policy-relevant narratives.
Experience working with multi-country datasets and translating research findings
into cross-country comparative analyses and synthesis products.
Strong skills in data visualisation, including the development of figures,
tables, and graphical representations for publication.
Language Requirements Excellent written and verbal communication skills in
English, with a demonstrated ability to tailor content for both academic and
policy audiences.
Desirables Ability to manage multiple deliverables, work independently, and meet
tight deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.
Technical Requirements Submission of at least 3 relevant writing samples
(peer-reviewed articles, reports, or knowledge products), clearly indicating the
candidate’s role in their development and demonstrating quality, analytical
rigour, and clarity of writing.
