OVERVIEW: Marc Jacobs International, powered by the creative genius of Marc Jacobs, seeks an Accounting Manager – Inventory and Gross Margin to join the Accounting team based in its New York City (SoHo) headquarters. The Inventory & Gross Margin Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of inventory accounting and selected revenue and gross margin accounting activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This role leads the accounting and financial reporting for inventory valuation, reserves, costing, and related balance sheet accounts while supporting revenue recognition, gross margin analysis, and month-end close activities. The position partners closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Merchandising, and FP&A to resolve accounting matters, improve processes, and strengthen internal controls. This role also reviews the work and provides guidance to one accounting team member (direct or indirect report). RESPONSIBILITIES : Lead the month-end close for inventory accounting for Retail and Wholesale, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of inventory balances, inventory in transit, inventory reserves, and related journal entries. Prepare and review inventory reconciliations and analyze significant fluctuations. Own inventory accounting under U.S. GAAP, including inventory valuation, standard cost updates, landed costs, obsolescence and excess inventory reserves, Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and related accounting policies. Evaluate accounting treatment for new inventory-related transactions and business initiatives. Support revenue accounting and gross margin reporting by ensuring the completeness and accuracy of sales, cost of sales, and related financial reporting. Review sales and margin trends and investigate unusual variances. Review inventory purchases, vendor transactions, and related accounting entries to ensure proper coding, capitalization, and compliance with company policy and U.S. GAAP. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by accounting staff to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely completion. Provide oversight, coaching, and technical guidance to accounting team member (direct or indirect report), including reviewing work, establishing priorities, and supporting professional development. Partner with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, Operations, Merchandising, Retail, and Wholesale, to resolve inventory and margin-related accounting issues and improve business processes. Monitor inventory costing processes and system interfaces (e.g., ERP, inventory management, and retail systems), ensuring data integrity between operational and financial systems. Develop and enhance accounting procedures, internal controls, and process improvements related to inventory, cost accounting, and revenue accounting. Assist with external audits by preparing schedules, responding to auditor requests, and supporting internal control documentation. Support special projects, accounting research, system implementations, and ad hoc financial analysis as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: BS in Accounting and strong knowledge of US GAAP 4+ years work experience Experience with inventory-intensive businesses such as wholesale, retail, consumer products, manufacturing, or distribution Costing knowledge preferred Audit experience (Big 4) preferred ERP systems experience Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail SALARY & BENEFITS/WHAT WE OFFER: The compensation for this position ranges from $115,000- $130,000 (annually). The rate of pay offered will be dependent upon candidate’s relevant skills and experience.
