Job description

The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine. Job Summary The Advisor, Health & Safety provides advanced technical health and safety support, and supports the execution of health and safety programs, projects, and improvement initiatives across the Great Bear site. The role coordinates and provides work direction for assigned activities, monitors health and safety management systems, organizes required resources, and applies technical judgement to resolve complex health and safety issues. Working with site leadership, employees, contractors, and Health & Safety team members, the advisor will support the development and implementation, audit, and continuous improvement of policies and procedures, standards, training, and risk management tools that support strong, risk sensitive culture and Kinross Safeground principles. Key Responsibilities and Duties Execution of assigned health and safety programs, technical projects, and continuous- improvement initiatives to enhance site practices and performance. Coordinate, prioritize, and monitor assigned health and safety activities to ensure work is completed accurately, consistently, and within established timelines. Provide technical guidance and work direction to employees, contractors, and less-experienced Health & Safety team members on applicable standards, procedures, risk controls, and safe work practices. Support the development, implementation, review, and revision of health and safety policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, training materials, and field tools. Monitor the effectiveness and currency of health and safety management systems, documentation, and records, and recommend improvements to support regulatory and company requirements. Provide support with risk assessments, field-level risk-management activities, workplace inspections, audits, and verification activities. Work with departments to identify hazards, assess operational risks and opportunities, and integrate effective controls into work plans and programs. Provide advice and respond to complex health and safety questions requiring technical knowledge, analysis, judgment, and interpretation of legislation, standards, and company requirements. Identify and recognize complex technical health and safety issues and escalate matters that may have broader operational, legal, or business implications. Facilitate and assist with incident investigations in accordance with company requirements, including the identification of contributing factors, corrective actions, and opportunities for organizational learning. . Advise corrective actions and program deliverables, analyze outcomes and trends, and prepare reports, recommendations, and documentation for site leadership. Coordinate audits, meetings, training, inspections, investigations, and other health and safety activities, including the scheduling of required people and resources. Deliver health and safety training, presentations, coaching, and mentoring for employees, supervisors, contractors, and internal customers. Liaise with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and support the completion and follow-up of committee activities and recommendations. Support site leadership during interactions with regulatory agencies and assist with responses, documentation, inspections, and corrective actions. Apply established Kinross and Great Bear methodologies, policies, procedures, and quality standards while identifying and recommending new or alternative approaches where improvement is required. Support annual planning and the establishment, monitoring, and reporting of health and safety objectives, milestones, and performance measures. Promote and model Kinross Safeground principles and support a workplace culture based on employee involvement, hazard recognition, effective risk management, and continuous improvement. Adhere to all relevant Great Bear policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skill Requirements College Diploma or equivalent technical training in Occupational Health, Safety, Mining, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. A combination of education, professional development, and experience would be considered. Completion or, or eligibility for, a recognized professional health and safety certification or designation. Experience in mining, or another complex industrial environment is preferred. Experience participating in technical projects, programs, investigations, audits, multidisciplinary safety initiatives. Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, risk-management practices, incident investigation, auditing, inspections, training, and management-system requirements. Strong understanding of surface and underground mining activities, mining processes, associated hazards, critical controls, and training requirements. Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations for mines and mining plants, and other legal and company requirements relevant to the operation. Ability to interpret and apply legislation, standards, technical information, corporate requirements, and site procedures to complex operational situations. Ability to proactively identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical health and safety problems with significant potential impact on operations. Ability to assess the broader operational implications of health and safety decisions and escalate matters when required. Strong analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate findings, identify trends, assess work outcomes, and prepare practical recommendations. Excellent written communication, report writing, documentation, presentation, facilitation, and organizational skills. Ability to communicate technical and complex information clearly to employees and management at all levels. Ability to lead meetings, training, investigations, risk assessments, audits, and presentations. Ability to learn and adapt to new equipment, systems, software, and work processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Intelex, incident-reporting systems, and other applicable health and safety information-management tools. Local candidates, or those willing to relocate, with relocation assistance, will be given priority for this position. The schedule is a 14X14, although FIFO/DIDO arrangement may be considered. Compensation and Total Rewards The base salary for the Advisor, Health and Safety is $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 + Short Term Incentive, + Group Benefit Coverage. The hiring range reflects our targeted compensation framework for the role. The actual offer will be determined through a comprehensive evaluation of each candidate's experience, capabilities, and potential impact, along with consideration of internal equity, team structure, and benchmark market data for similar positions.
