Job description
What's the opportunity? Working closely with the General Manager, you'll play a key role in running the pub, developing the team and delivering fantastic customer experiences. We're looking for someone who is confident making decisions, takes ownership of their shifts and knows how to get the best out of people. You'll be a hands-on leader who enjoys being out on the floor, working alongside the team and making sure the pub is at its best. You'll be responsible for: Supporting the General Manager with the day-to-day running of the pub and stepping up in their absence. Taking ownership of shifts and making confident decisions to keep the business running smoothly. Leading, coaching and developing our established team, helping everyone reach their potential. Creating a welcoming atmosphere where customers feel valued and want to return. Delivering excellent service across our drinks, pub classics and small plates. Making the most of live sport, Champions League football, live music and other events to drive trade. Building strong relationships with our regulars and the wider local community. Maintaining high standards across service, cleanliness, safety and compliance. Identifying opportunities to grow sales and improve business performance. Keeping the team motivated, organised and ready to deliver, even when things get busy.
What we're looking for We're looking for someone with previous hospitality management experience who has the confidence to lead, the personality to engage customers and the drive to develop a great team. You'll ideally have: Previous experience in an Assistant Manager, Deputy Manager or similar hospitality management role. Experience working in a busy pub, bar or restaurant environment. Strong people-management skills and a genuine interest in developing others. The confidence to make decisions, take ownership and lead from the front. A hands-on approach — you'll be working alongside your team, not managing from the sidelines. A customer-first mindset and a passion for delivering memorable hospitality. An interest in live sport and an understanding of how sporting events can bring a pub to life. Commercial awareness and the ambition to help grow the business. The ability to stay calm under pressure and bring the team with you. Personal Licence: As this role may involve covering the business in the General Manager's absence, you'll need to be eligible to hold a Personal Licence. You don't need to have one when you apply. If you're successful, Greene King will support you through the process of obtaining your licence.
And there's plenty in it for you... At Greene King, we're passionate about helping our people build careers they're proud of. You'll have access to: Career development opportunities across Greene King and our family of brands. Training and development at every level, including apprenticeships. 33% employee discount and 15% for loved ones across our brands. 50% employee discount and 25% for loved ones at Greene King Inns. Free Employee Assistance Programme. Enhanced family-friendly maternity and paternity support. Menopause Friendly Employer. Refer a Friend scheme – up to £1,500. Wagestream. Retail discounts, including savings with Superdrug and Three Mobile. Greene King is the country's leading pub company and brewer. With over 220 years of history and a 39,000-strong team, we're on a mission to pour happiness into lives and become the pride of great British hospitality. CREATING PLACES WHERE PEOPLE FEEL WELCOME, SAFE AND THAT THEY BELONG We aim to embed inclusion into every decision we make – across our people, customers, communities, suppliers, and operations. We want to create a culture where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to thrive. Bring your energy. Develop the team. Make The Cricketers yours.
