Summary Join HII as we provide the maintenance, modernization, and lifecycle readiness of naval platforms to maintain reliable and mission-readiness by delivering coordinated engineering, logistics, modernization, sustainment, and industrial support to the U.S. Navy and allied partners. The Fleet Sustainment team is seeking an Assistant Program Manager preferably in the Hampton Roads or DMV area, but there is flexibility in location based on experience. This position supports the Program Manager with planning, coordination, and execution of all contractual requirements of Technical Support of naval and partner allied vessels, systems, and ship sustainment infrastructure. The Assistant PM will oversee portions of daily program operations, compliance with the Statement of Work (SOW) and cost, meeting schedule, technical, and security requirements. This role supports the management of multi‑discipline engineering, logistics, and shipyard support efforts across CONUS and OCONUS locations. Key responsibilities include contributions to establishing program milestones, monitoring adherence to master plans and schedules, and identifying and helping resolve program challenges through coordinated resource allocation, process improvements, or recommended contractual adjustments. This position ensures effective continuity of operations and provides essential support to the Program Manager in achieving successful program outcomes. *This role is contingent upon contract award.* Essential Job Responsibilities Provide direct support to the Program manager; lead program review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance. Coordinate program requirements across planning stages with several subcontractors, and direct the work of employees assigned to the program. Establish milestones and monitor adherence to master plans and schedules, and proactively resolve program issues. Interface with government customers to ensure program requirements are being met. Develop new business or expand services with the customer. Develop mechanisms for monitoring progress and for intervention/problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients. Coordinate with CONUS and OCONUS shipyards, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and other subcontractors to support execution of ship alteration, repair, and overhaul work packages. Support configuration management activities documenting the current status of ships, systems, and equipment. Support travel requirments both CONUS and OCONUS. Minimum Qualifications Fifteen (15) years of increasing engineering management responsibility, including at least five (5) years in USG ship or submarine construction or repair/overhaul. Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or business-related field. Ability to coordinate domestic and international requirements, several subcontractors, and employees, including lower-level management assigned to the program; full working knowledge of program procedures and practices. Demonstrated experience managing DoD or Navy programs to include some level of planning, execution, cost/schedule tracking, and risk management. Experience with naval vessel maintenance, repair, overhaul, activation/reactivation, and shipyard work. Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance; must be a U.S. citizen eligible for such clearance. Possess a current passport. Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including extended stays in support of overseas customer engagements. Must be able to obtain base access and CAC card. Preferred Requirements Foreign Military Sales (FMS) experience is highly desirable. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Experience supporting multi-site or complex naval programs, including shipbuilding/overhaul environments. Experience supporting international customer engagements involving foreign government information and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling requirements. A current or active DoD security clearance. Physical Requirements May be required to visit job site in an industrial or shipboard environment. Normally not required to lift more than 40 pounds higher than three feet above feet/floor level.
