Total public member:               7          Method of Appointment:           Appointed by Mayor, confirmed by Council       Length of Appointment:           3 yearsResidency:                               DC Residency RequiredPaid board:                              No (all roles are voluntary)Description:The Board shall regulate the practices of professional counseling, professional art therapy, addiction counseling, dance therapy, and marriage and family therapy.Commission membership: The Board shall consist of 7 members, as follows:- 1 professional counselor licensed in the District- 1 professional counselor licensed in the District who is an educator engaged in teaching counseling- 1 professional counselor licensed in the District at least 3 years of experience in the field of addiction counseling- 1 professional art therapist licensed in the District - 1 marriage and family therapist licensed in the District- 1 member licensed or certified under this Board (professional counselor, a professional art therapist, a marriage and family therapist, or an addiction counselor)- 1 consumer memberQualifications:  The professional members must be licensed to practice in the District. Each professional member shall have been engaged in the practice for at least 3 years preceding appointment. The consumer member shall be at least 18 years old, shall not be a health professional or in training to become a health professional, and shall not have a household member who is a health professional or is in training to become a health professional.Time Commitment:The Board meets monthly; subcommittees meet as required to complete tasks.If you are interested in an appointment to this board, please complete the appointment application.
