Job description

The Cloud Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the automation platforms, infrastructure-as-code frameworks, and cloud operational tooling that enable VERSANT’s cloud-first technology strategy. This role focuses on building scalable, repeatable, and secure automation solutions across a large multi-account AWS environment. The engineer will partner with cloud engineering, application development, networking, security, and operations teams to automate cloud provisioning, governance, identity management, deployments, monitoring, and operational workflows. As a leading media company, VERSANT operates a diverse portfolio of digital products, content platforms, streaming services, and media workflows. The Cloud Automation Engineer will develop automation solutions that support media processing, content delivery, streaming platforms, and customer-facing digital applications running in AWS. The ideal candidate has strong experience with AWS, infrastructure as code, CI/CD platforms, cloud governance, and automation engineering. Experience with AWS Organizations, Control Tower, Identity Center, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and cloud-native operational tooling is highly desired. Experience from Azure and GCP is beneficial but not required. Responsibilities Cloud Automation & Infrastructure as Code Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform, CloudFormation, and related automation frameworks. Build reusable modules, templates, and automation patterns that enable consistent deployment of cloud infrastructure. Automate provisioning, configuration, lifecycle management, and decommissioning of cloud resources. Ensure cloud infrastructure is version-controlled, auditable, and deployed through automated workflows. Develop automation solutions supporting media, streaming, content management, content delivery, and digital platform workloads operating in AWS. Create reusable infrastructure patterns that enable application and media engineering teams to deploy services consistently and securely. AWS Platform Automation Automate administration and governance of large AWS environments utilizing AWS Organizations, Control Tower, and Identity Center. Develop automation for account provisioning, guardrail enforcement, resource tagging, policy management, and compliance controls. Build self-service cloud capabilities that accelerate application team onboarding and deployment. Support automation of identity, access management, and account lifecycle processes across AWS environments. CI/CD & Delivery Automation Design and support CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments, including media services, content platforms, APIs, and customer-facing digital applications. Implement automation for build, test, security scanning, release management, and deployment workflows. Implement automated testing, deployment, and operational validation processes that improve reliability and delivery speed across media and digital workloads. Partner with engineering teams to improve deployment reliability, consistency, and velocity. Support GitOps and modern deployment methodologies. Identity & Security Automation Develop automation supporting AWS IAM, Identity Center (SSO), federation, and role-based access controls. Implement automated policy validation, security controls, compliance monitoring, and remediation workflows. Partner with cybersecurity teams to embed security requirements into automated deployment pipelines. Support cloud governance initiatives through automation and policy enforcement. Monitoring & Operational Excellence Develop automation for monitoring, alerting, logging, and operational reporting. Create tooling that improves system reliability, operational visibility, and incident response. Eliminate repetitive manual tasks through automation and workflow orchestration. Contribute to observability and operational maturity across cloud environments. Hybrid Infrastructure Automation Support automation across AWS and hybrid environments that integrate with on-premises infrastructure and enterprise services. Build automation workflows that simplify provisioning, configuration, and operational management. Assist with integrations between cloud platforms, networking services, identity systems, and operational tooling. Support infrastructure modernization efforts through automation and repeatable deployment patterns. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Partner with cloud, networking, security, and application teams to identify automation opportunities. Contribute to cloud engineering standards, documentation, and best practices. Evaluate emerging automation technologies and recommend improvements to engineering processes and platforms. Participate in architecture reviews and operational improvement initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience. 3–7 years of experience in cloud engineering, automation engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering roles. Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and enterprise-scale AWS environments. Experience with: AWS Organizations AWS Control Tower AWS Identity Center (SSO) IAM and identity federation Experience developing Infrastructure as Code solutions using: Terraform CloudFormation Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as: GitHub Actions GitLab CI Azure DevOps Jenkins Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages. Experience implementing cloud governance, security controls, and operational automation. Understanding of AWS networking concepts, including VPCs, routing, hybrid connectivity, and shared services. Hands on experience working with Datadog. Experience to Azure and/or GCP is a plus.
