Job description
SteerBridge is a modern technology company delivering innovative, mission‑focused solutions to the U.S. Government and private sector. Leveraging deep expertise in federal acquisition, digital transformation, and emerging technologies, we deliver agile, commercial‑grade capabilities that accelerate operational effectiveness and drive measurable mission success.
At the core of SteerBridge is our people—especially the veterans whose leadership, problem‑solving mindset, and commitment to excellence elevate every project we support. We don’t simply hire exceptional talent; we cultivate it , creating meaningful career pathways for veterans, military spouses, and professionals who share our passion for advancing technology and strengthening the missions we serve.
Position Overview
SteerBridge is seeking a Cloud FinOps Analyst to support the cloud and IT operations of our technology team and federal programs. This role will focus on bringing financial transparency and cost discipline to AWS, software, SaaS, and license spend by tracking, reporting, forecasting, and reducing cost across programs, and by applying FinOps practices that connect engineering, finance, and program leadership.
This is a technical role, not a reporting-only position. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with cloud billing and usage data and can query the data, build a dashboard, spot an idle or oversized resource, and explain the savings to both engineers and finance. Rather than adding findings to a backlog, the analyst builds automated discovery and reporting so the same waste is caught every month, and brings optimization opportunities to the cloud and IT teams with quantified savings and a clear implementation path.
This is a hybrid position based in Vienna, VA.
Key Responsibilities
Produce monthly cost and usage reports for cloud and IT spend, broken out by program, environment, and service, for leadership, finance, and the customers who fund the work.
Build budgets and spend forecasts, reconcile AWS invoices against budgets and program allocations, and explain variances before they become surprises.
Develop and automate the cost and usage reporting pipeline using AWS Cost and Usage Reports or Data Exports, Amazon Athena, dashboards, SQL, and scheduled scripts, and document reporting methodology.
Build automated discovery of idle, orphaned, oversized, and untagged resources across AWS accounts, and quantify savings from rightsizing, storage lifecycle, and cleanup.
Analyze and recommend commitment purchases such as Savings Plans and Reserved Instances, and track their utilization and coverage.
Present optimization opportunities with a business case and implementation path, and partner with finance, program leadership, cloud engineering, and IT to track each one through to realized savings using FinOps and AWS Well-Architected practices.
Track software licenses, SaaS subscriptions, and renewal dates, reconcile IT vendor invoices against contracts and usage, and support true-ups, renewals, and seat reclamation.
Define and document cost allocation tagging standards, report on compliance, and propose cost guardrails such as AWS Budgets, anomaly detection, and lifecycle policies as infrastructure-as-code merge requests.
Required Qualifications
Eligibility requirements: U.S. citizenship is required for this position under applicable federal contract requirements. [Candidates must also be able to obtain and maintain any security clearance required for the role. Confirm whether a clearance applies.]
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Finance, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
1+ years of experience in cloud financial management (FinOps), cloud operations, IT asset or license management, or financial or data analysis in a technical environment, including familiarity with AWS billing data and the pricing drivers behind compute, storage, networking, and data transfer.
Strong SQL and spreadsheet skills for reports, forecasts, and reconciliations, plus basic scripting in Python or PowerShell.
Preferred Qualification
FinOps Certified Practitioner or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, and familiarity with the FinOps Foundation framework, FOCUS, and the AWS Well-Architected cost optimization pillar.
Experience with AWS cost management tools, such as Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, Cost Anomaly Detection, and Compute Optimizer, and reporting tools such as Amazon Athena, QuickSight, or Power BI.
Experience in AWS GovCloud (US), multi-account AWS Organizations, or consolidated billing, or on government contracts with program-level cost accounting.
Exposure to infrastructure as code (Terraform) and Git-based merge request workflows.
Experience managing Microsoft 365 and SaaS licensing, renewals, and vendor spend.
