Condition Assessment Engineer

Strong experience in condition assessment of existing and under construction structures . The successful candidate will investigate concrete cracking, distress, corrosion, and durability-related issues; perform or coordinate laboratory testing; estimate remaining service life; and deliver clear technical reports with root-cause analysis and repair/strengthening recommendations. Minimum Qualifications 5+ years of experience in forensic engineering and/or condition assessment of concrete and/or structural assets. Demonstrated knowledge of durability requirements for concrete and related deterioration mechanisms. Experience investigating and documenting concrete cracks, distress, corrosion, and deterioration patterns. Experience with service life estimation methodologies (or equivalent durability/performance assessment). Ability to prepare detailed professional reports summarizing: Site observations and findings Laboratory test results Supporting analysis and engineering conclusions Proven ability to provide technical conclusions on root causes of defects and develop recommendations for strengthening, repair, and mitigation . Experience with repair materials and repair methodologies (e.g., selection of appropriate materials, surface preparation considerations, strengthening/rehabilitation approaches, and implementation considerations). Key Responsibilities Conduct forensic investigations and condition assessments of existing structures, including visual inspections and documentation of distress/deterioration. Assess concrete durability performance and deterioration mechanisms relevant to cracking, corrosion, and other distress forms. Identify and evaluate contributing factors to defects, including exposure conditions, material quality, workmanship, and structural/functional issues. Support or lead planning and interpretation of relevant laboratory tests (e.g., concrete and corrosion-related testing) and incorporate results into engineering assessments. Perform service life estimation and durability forecasting based on obtained data and established methods. Develop root-cause findings and provide engineering recommendations for repair, rehabilitation, and/or strengthening . Prepare client-facing and internal technical reports that clearly present findings, analysis, and recommendations. Provide technical support during design development and (if applicable) repair implementation planning. Preferred Skills (Optional) Experience with investigations related to bridges, buildings, industrial structures, parking structures, or other reinforced concrete assets. Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and assessment/durability frameworks. Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders. Education (Optional) Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related field (advanced degree and professional certifications are a plus). Soft Skills : Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills for stakeholder management. Methodical approach with high attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
