Job Title: Custodial Worker Department: FAES | Wooster Campus Facility Services Custodial Worker Location: Wooster, Ohio Schedule: 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Union Affiliation: Communications Workers of America (CWA) Reports To: Custodial Supervisor The Custodial Worker performs routine custodial and housekeeping duties in various campus facilities as part of a custodial services team. Under the general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, this position is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and orderly environments through trash removal, recycling collection, general cleaning, floor care, and the cleaning of building furnishings, fixtures, and windows. The Custodial Worker contributes to a positive campus experience by ensuring facilities are well maintained and presentable for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning of campus buildings, including offices, classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and common areas. Remove trash and collect recyclable materials according to established procedures. Clean, sanitize, and maintain restrooms and other high-use areas. Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, buff, and maintain various floor surfaces. Clean interior windows, furniture, fixtures, and building equipment. Operate custodial equipment and tools safely and effectively. Restock custodial and restroom supplies as needed. Follow departmental cleaning schedules and established safety procedures. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repair needs to appropriate personnel. Assist with special cleaning projects and event support as assigned. Maintain a safe and organized work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Education High school diploma or GED. Required Qualifications Valid driver's license. Successful completion of a background check. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to perform physical duties associated with custodial work. Preferred Qualifications One to two years of custodial, housekeeping, or related facilities maintenance experience. Knowledge of custodial procedures, products, and safety practices. Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of safe cleaning methods and workplace safety practices. Skill in operating custodial and floor-care equipment. Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and materials. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing 30 to 100 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces and around potentially hazardous materials when required. Ability to maintain attention to detail and quality standards. Ability to adapt to changing work assignments and priorities. Working Conditions Work is performed in a variety of campus facilities and environments. Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and varying temperatures may occur. Overtime and work schedules outside of regular hours may be required based on operational needs. Must be able to wear and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Additional Information: The offer for this position will fall within the positions pay range based on internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
