Job description

You’re a leader who takes ownership and actively creates positive change. You have the opportunity to bring your delivery leadership skills to ensure reliable project execution while playing a pivotal role in shaping the success of a major infrastructure project. In this role, you'll: Join the M6 Stage 1 Project that will provide a new twin tunnel motorway connection between the M8 Motorway at Arncliffe and President Avenue at Kogarah. The project will be the first stage in completing the missing link from southern Sydney to the Sydney motorway network, making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will allow users to bypass up to 23 sets of traffic lights on the Princes Highway between St Peters and Kogarah and remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads, and help return local streets to local communities. Additional benefits to the community, to name a few, will include the provision of new shared cycle and pedestrian pathways, major road upgrades for President Avenue and its intersection with Princes Highway and substantial parklands and open spaces. Work as part of the Infrastructure Place & Engineering, Major Projects branch in the M6 team. Reporting to the Project Director, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and promoting strong collaboration across the functions ensuring delivery to time, cost, safety and quality requirements. Supported by a dedicated delivery team, you will be involved in high level decision making and expected to deliver on key objectives for the project and division in consultation with the Project Director and functional teams under challenging conditions. As such, you will work closely and collaboratively with the Head Contractor’s Construction Manager to understand constraints, facilitate problem solving and follow through on resolution with a ‘best for project’ mindset. You will also partner and consult with other relevant Transport branches, managers and counterparts to agree on business-critical matters or decisions involving legislative changes and delegation beyond the approved budget levels for the delivery of the project. The stakes are high as we deal with budget and time constraints, interface issues and public scrutiny. You will bring with you a wealth of project management experience across large scale complex infrastructure projects. Importantly, you don’t shy away from initiating the tough conversations or making difficult decisions. This role is perfect for an ambitious and high performing Delivery Lead who is looking to take their next big career step with NSW’s leading infrastructure agency during an exciting time of growth and delivery. Role is based in Mascot. This is a fixed term opportunity Transport Senior Service Executive TSSE1A level role for up to 2.5 years with the expectation of a minimum 4 days a week in the project office/on site. You will be required to commence your role in January 2027 following our xmas shut down. Please view the Role Description and information pack . About you Have extensive experience in the design and delivery of motorway construction projects. Experience in all stages of a complex infrastructure mega project life cycle. Demonstrated exceptional project management skills and experience and sound knowledge in the development and delivery of large complex road and tunnel infrastructure, including delivery, commissioning and integrating with Operations Management Control Systems and Motorway Network Communication Systems. Brings a collaborative style that anticipates and identifies the issues and drivers behind Contractor behaviours, facilitates open and honest communications, and seeks project success for all parties. Sound infrastructure project planning expertise with a record of success in dealing with Government agencies involved in planning approval and statutory processes. Have demonstrated knowledge of associated legislation and safety standards. Experience working within, or a firm understanding of, a matrix management structure where support services are embedded within program office delivery teams. Takes an active interest in team health and professional development of direct reports.
