Luminis Health Title: Director – Professional Development & Clinical Education - Luminis Health Department: Nursing Administration Reports to: Senior Director of Nursing Professional Practice, Development and Quality - Luminis Health Job Code/Cost Center: 20000-50073-000037 FLSA: Salaried/Exempt Position Objective: The Director of Clinical Education and Professional Development for Luminis Health (AAMC, DCMC, McNew/Pathways) directs the clinical education and professional development of all nursing departments through the system and provides consultation to the clinical education of ancillary departments. In addition, the director, provides leadership for the shared services of the department including nursing informatics, nurse residency, student tracking, and HSCRC nursing grant programs. Included in the scope of this position is establishing standards of nursing onboarding education, clinical orientation related to staff transfers between departments, continuing education, professional development, clinical internships, mentoring programs, nursing residency programs, and management of our American Heart Association training center. Works in collaboration with unit educators and clinical leadership across Luminis Health nursing to support the goals of the system. Develops, directs, and implements leadership and professional development activities and programs for nursing departments Plans and organizes activities required around ANCC Accreditation in collaboration with the Director of Professional Practice/ANCC Accreditation. Scans the professional practice and learning environment for opportunities or threats, both within and external to the organization, for practice gaps that may signal a potential need for change in clinical practice or training. Conducts assessments to identify the potential needs in clinical nursing care related to practice gaps. Designs and implements activities and programs to best address the gaps through internal or external sources. Promotes innovation and supports change in learning, training, and clinical professional development and serves as a resource/consultant to the organization in the evaluation and management of Learning Management Systems Directs, develops, and implements systems that ensure compliance for credentialing and competency in nursing and other clinical staff. Ensures processes to document staff learning, training, and development needs and completion. Directs the overall liaison activities with educational institutions including secondary, technical, undergraduate, and graduate institutions. Collaborates with the Clinical Informatics nurses to serve as a liaison between the Clinical Informatics team and the Epic Information Technology team to communicate clinical user needs and facilitate system modification to meet quality standards and create safe patient care. Serves as Director Advisor to the Clinical Informatics Council. Collaborates with the leadership teams to develop and implement initiatives and action plans that supports patient care quality and safety within the clinical areas organization-wide. Develops and implements systems that ensure compliance for nursing department staff s with appropriate standards and regulations as represented by example by Joint Commission, CMS, Magnet Designation, etc. Serves as a resource/consultant to the system in establishing programs and processes that evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing standards, clinical practice, and education utilizing key quality indicators that are sensitive to clinical outcomes. Collaborate with the leadership of Clinical Centers of Excellence (for example, Stroke) to develop and implements systems that ensure compliance of nursing and other clinical disciplines with appropriate standards required to obtain and maintain designations as centers of excellence. Collaborates with the Chief Nurse Officers and clinical leadership, to develop, implement, and maintain clinical care guidelines. Directs or consults on development and implementation of effective performance improvement process in matters related to nursing standards of practice, education, and clinical care delivery. Promotes continuing education and use of evidence-based practice within all clinical areas. Promotes the use of evidence-based teaching methods for staff, patients, and families. Ensures collaborative efforts between the three hospitals to efficiently manage the education and professional development of staff. Educational/Experience Requirements : The minimum level of education and experience for this position includes: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree required Masters in Nursing Education from an accredited School of Nursing or a Master’s degree in a related field is required, Ph.D. preferred. Certification in Nursing Professional Development Minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical nursing education required. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing with individuals and groups at various organizational levels and of various disciplines. Required License/Certifications: Current licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland is required. American Health Association Healthcare Provider BLS Working Conditions, Equipment, and Physical Demands: There is reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Physical Demands - Light Work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
