Join our team The Kmart Digital team builds and operates the platforms that power the online experience for millions of customers across Kmart and Target. From customer accounts and content management through to fulfilment, marketplace, mobile, and ecommerce capabilities, our teams deliver technology that sits at the heart of how customers engage with our brands. We’re continuing to invest in our engineering capability and are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the squads building and managing our Digital Marketplace. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on building high-performing teams, developing engineering capability, and creating the environment for engineers to do their best work. You’ll partner closely with Product, Delivery, and Technology stakeholders to deliver meaningful outcomes while helping shape the future of engineering within Digital. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical judgement with people leadership. You’ll lead experienced engineers working on customer-facing platforms where reliability, scalability, and responsiveness matter. The pace is fast, the systems are highly integrated, and the impact of the work is visible to millions of customers every day. What you’ll be doing Leading, coaching, and developing a team of engineers, creating a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement. Supporting the delivery of high-quality software solutions across Kmart and Target’s digital platforms. Partnering with Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, Architects, and peer Engineering Managers to align priorities and delivery outcomes. Driving engineering best practice across software development, testing, operational support, and continuous delivery. Participating in technical discussions, solution design, and architectural decision-making for highly integrated digital systems. Developing engineering leaders and senior engineers, creating an environment where people can grow, take ownership and deliver at scale. Creating an environment where engineers take ownership of the software they build and operate. Supporting incident management, operational resilience, and the ongoing reliability of customer-facing systems. Working across a distributed team model, collaborating with colleagues in Melbourne and Bengaluru. To be successful in this role you’ll have: Proven experience leading software engineering teams within complex technology environments. A strong technical background and the ability to confidently participate in architectural and engineering discussions. Experience delivering customer-facing digital products or highly integrated enterprise systems. Demonstrated success building, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams. Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build alignment across Product, Engineering, and Delivery functions. A pragmatic approach to balancing technical quality, operational reliability, and delivery outcomes. Experience working in Agile environments and supporting modern engineering practices. The ability to remain calm, decisive, and focused when supporting critical production systems and incident response. Experience in marketplace, ecommerce, digital products, or other high-scale consumer platforms, with a strong understanding of customer-centric digital experiences is highly regarded.
