MPD, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will design, implement, and manage programs to prevent illness, disease or injury to workers or damage to the environment. The EHS Specialist will be required to train employees on safety policies and practices, conduct regular inspections, generate health and safety assessment reports, and ensure that occupational guidelines and regulations are adhered to. A successful EHS specialist will demonstrate a detailed knowledge of health and safety regulations and strong leadership skills. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure compliance with organizational, federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental, health and safety, and representing the company in all contact with the regulatory agencies. Work with executives, management, and operations to setup and monitor the Company’s safety and hazardous waste handling procedures. Develop, implement, and manage the site emergency response processes. Plan and implement safety/environmental policies and procedures in compliance with Company, local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and EPA regulations and directives. Plan and implement programs to educate managers and employees in work site safety practices, for example, but not limited to forklift practices, fire prevention, lockout/Tag-out, fall protection, personal protective equipment, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials. Inspect organization facilities to detect an existing or potential accidents and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented. Lead the investigation of accidents, injuries, illnesses and near misses and cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use. Ensure First Reports of Injury are completed on a timely basis and submitted to the worker’s compensation carrier as required. Maintain health, safety and environmental files and records including the OSHA 300 and 300A logs. Post as required. Ensure timely submittal, acquisition and maintenance of all environmental permits and reports to maintain compliance with state and federal requirements. Develop and coordinate a plant safety committee. Uses sampling, testing and measuring techniques, and performs quantitative and qualitative analysis to determine air, land or water pollution levels as needed. The position incumbent has authority commensurate with his/her responsibility within the limits of approved Company and Department policies, instructions, rules and budgets. Strong leadership ability. Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, safety management, or similar. Ten or more years safety related experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. OSHA or similar EHS certification. Detailed knowledge of relevant regulations such as OSHA, EPA, and ANSI. The ability to read and interpret safety data sheets. Proficiency in computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Acute attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
