Job description

The Colas Group operates internationally in all aspects of transport infrastructure. As part of the global organisation, Colas Ireland is primarily involved the distribution of bitumen products, emulsion and emulsifier manufacturing, and the provision of specialist road maintenance services on the national, regional and local road network. In Ireland Colas operates from 14 locations across the island of Ireland. Purpose of the Role As Environmental Manager, you will oversee three EPA licences and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 systems across multiple Colas sites in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Your role is to ensure regulatory compliance, implement robust environmental and energy management systems, and support Colas’ sustainability goals, including the ACT 2030 initiative. Main Responsibilities You will manage EPA licence compliance, prepare and submit reports, and liaise with EPA inspectors. Operational oversight includes site inspections, waste management, and environmental monitoring (air, noise, water, hazardous substances). You will maintain key environmental risk assessments and lead remediation efforts where necessary. Managing ISO 14001 EMS and ISO 50001 energy systems across various facilities involves conducting audits, updating documentation, and driving energy efficiency improvements. You will coordinate Colas Ireland’s extra-financial reporting, administer annual environmental compliance checklists, and support strategic sustainability projects and carbon accounting initiatives. Additional duties include delivering environmental training and presenting updates at seminars. You will continuously identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and maintain compliance with audit schedules and KPIs. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have a degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering or related field, along with professional membership (IEMA, ESAI, Energy Institute) and ISO 14001 Lead Auditor certification.
