At Visa, you'll have the opportunity to create impact at scale — tackling meaningful challenges, growing your skills and seeing your contributions impact lives around the world. Join Visa and do work that matters – to you, to your community, and to the world. Progress starts with you. Job Description Team Summary Global Controllership establishes Visa's global accounting policies, provides technical accounting guidance, supports complex commercial transactions, and ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of Visa Inc.'s financial reporting under U.S. GAAP and local statutory reporting under IFRS. This role sits at the intersection of Accounting, Business, Legal, Procurement, Product, and Finance Transformation. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor who combines deep technical accounting expertise with strong commercial judgment and a digital mindset. What a Manager, Technical Accounting & Commercial Advisory does at Visa This role is designed for an independent, commercially minded technical accounting leader who can interpret complex contracts, understand the economics of a transaction, and apply the appropriate U.S. GAAP treatment. The role will also modernize technical accounting advisory through AI, automation, and scalable decision frameworks. Technical Accounting & Contract Advisory • Serve as a subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP, providing clear, practical, and well-supported accounting advice. • Review complex contracts, commercial arrangements, new products, and strategic initiatives to identify the relevant accounting guidance and determine the appropriate accounting treatment. • Assess the substance of arrangements, such as obligations, benefits received, performance requirements, timing and control of value transfer, and the underlying economics of the transaction. • Research and apply accounting guidance across areas such as revenue recognition, payments to customers, marketing and sponsorship arrangements, software and technology agreements, assets, prepayments, and provisions. • Prepare high-quality technical accounting memoranda and position papers that clearly articulate facts, accounting guidance, judgments, alternatives, conclusions, and financial statement implications. • Present and defend accounting conclusions with senior management, external auditors, and other stakeholders. Commercial Contract Review & Business Partnership • Look beyond the legal form of a contract to understand what Visa is economically buying, selling, funding, or committing to. • Partner with Business, Legal, Procurement, Product, Marketing, FP&A, and Business Development teams in evaluation of appropriate accounting treatment. • Identify accounting, financial reporting, control, and operational implications early, before agreements are executed. • Translate complex accounting requirements into clear business language and provide practical recommendations without compromising accounting integrity. • Exercise professional skepticism, constructively challenge assumptions, and influence stakeholders toward appropriate outcomes. AI, Automation & Scalable Advisory • Use AI and GenAI tools, with appropriate review and controls, to accelerate accounting research, contract analysis, issue identification, and first-draft technical documentation. • Develop repeatable decision trees, playbooks, templates, and accounting assessment frameworks for recurring transaction types. • Identify and implement opportunities to automate technical accounting intake, contract review, knowledge management, and advisory workflows. • Translate accounting requirements into structured logic that can be embedded into digital tools, upstream processes, and control frameworks. • Partner with data and technology teams to build scalable solutions that improve consistency, quality, traceability, and turnaround time. Governance & Leadership • Ensure accounting conclusions are supported by robust documentation, governance, and internal controls. • Monitor emerging accounting guidance and evaluate its impact on business models, contracts, and financial reporting. • Operate independently, take ownership of outcomes, and escalate material matters with clear recommendations. • Demonstrate integrity and courage by doing the right thing, including when the accounting conclusion is commercially inconvenient. • Apply sound judgment and organizational awareness to navigate ambiguity and complex stakeholder environments effectively. Why this is important to Visa This role helps Visa make well-informed commercial decisions while maintaining high-quality and compliant financial reporting. By combining rigorous accounting analysis, commercial understanding, independent judgment, and AI-enabled advisory, the Manager will improve the quality and speed of contract assessments and create scalable technical accounting capabilities for the organization. This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in the office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager. Qualifications What you will need Core Technical Accounting & Commercial Experience • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification required. • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including mandatory experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm. • Relevant experience in a large U.S. GAAP multinational or publicly traded company operating in a complex global environment. • Deep technical proficiency in U.S. GAAP and strong working knowledge of IFRS. • Demonstrated experience reviewing contracts and complex commercial arrangements and preparing defensible technical accounting conclusions. • Proven ability to prepare accounting position papers and engage effectively with external auditors and senior stakeholders. • Strong commercial acumen, including the ability to understand deal economics, business objectives, contractual rights and obligations, and operational mechanics. • Experience in technical accounting, accounting policy, financial reporting, controllership, transaction advisory, deal review, or commercial accounting advisory. Ways of Working • Independent self-starter who can lead an assessment from fact-finding through conclusion and implementation. • High integrity, objectivity, professional skepticism, and courage to do the right thing. • Commercially practical with strong judgment on when to challenge, influence, collaborate, and escalate. • Clear and concise communicator who can make complex accounting understandable to non-accounting stakeholders. • Curious, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning and improvement. • Aligned with Visa Leadership Principles, especially Lead Courageously, Collaborate as One Visa, and Execute with Excellence.
