Job description

The General Manager of Value-Added Services will develop strategic direction and oversight of non-timber revenue generating activities on client assets, including but not limited to Carbon Capture Storage, surface and subsurface mineral leases, surface damages from oil and gas activities and infrastructure, power-line right-of-ways, recreation, grazing, cell towers, cabins, renewable energy, identification of high better use opportunities , and more. This role is responsible to ensure MFM develops and monetizes non-timber revenue streams on all client lands. This person must have foresight and passion for new business development and a curiosity to explore new opportunities. An entrepreneurial spirit is a must while also managing the exposure to financial and environmental risks a project will encounter. This role will oversee transactions in excess of $100MM per year across NA. This leader must also manage the development and skillsets required of their team members to be successful in the business. As the leader of the VAS team, you will own and execute every project to ensure we grow revenue streams on client’s assets. The role reports to the President of MFM and can be based in one of our offices or work remotely. The role’s primary focus is developing non-timber revenue generating opportunities by identifying opportunities that align with our foundational principle, Good Stewardship is Good Business. This role has four direct reports across NA and will regularly interact with the Portfolio Management and Client Services group (PMCS), Global Resources and Planning group (GRP) and MFM Operations and Accounting. Scope: MFM manages approximately 3.6 million acres of timberland in 18 separate states including, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New York, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine and Oklahoma. Management function requires oversight of approximately 4 direct reports to provide project management, asset management, acquisition and disposition support, and risk management services to each Chief Operating Officer, General Manager and the President of Manulife Forest Management and MIMT. Position Responsibilities: Ensure client fiduciary obligations are maintained Ensure the safety of people and the stewardship of the environment is prioritized Develop and maintain a strong, service-oriented relationship with the appropriate MFM and MIMT personnel Service the continuous information and communication needs of multiple teams based in multiple regions Provide leadership of approximately 9 employees Develop and execute a recreation strategy to deliver top quartile recreational use rates for properties under MFM management Provide management direction and oversight for Manulife Forest Management’s value added revenue projects including but not limited to carbon and wetland mitigation banks, sand, clay, gravel sales, water filtration/storage, pine straw, renewable energy, etc. Develop internal personnel to identify non-core revenue opportunities Provide oversight in all aspects of non-core revenue project management to include safety, stewardship, SFI® and FSC® compliance, marketing, planning, recreational use and protection Provide oversight to assist in all aspects of asset management to include acquisitions, dispositions Assume lead role in communications efforts to include stakeholder involvement, public relation issues, regulatory monitoring, industry involvement, and governmental involvement Provide assistance in policy development and implementation related to the job function Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and procedures Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws In coordination with the MFMNA and Boston accounting departments, provide oversight of regional client accounting to include general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, taxes, financial accounting, debt management, and cash flow requirements Work with the Resource Support Team to ensure that forest inventory, forest planning, and modeling interface are efficient and effective Participate in appropriate regional industry associations and committees Other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in the environmental field or equivalent experience is required Graduate degree in an environmental related discipline or business management is highly desirable Experience working with agencies providing oversight to non-core revenue projects (ie: Wetland mitigation banks) Minimum of a combined ten (10) years of environmental project management Minimum of ten (10) years organizational management and leadership experience within an organization of significant size and scope Demonstrated ability to lead teams, collaborate across functions, and operate effectively in a self-directed environment. Referenced Salary Location USA, North Carolina - Full Time Remote Working Arrangement Remote Salary range is expected to be between $122,325.00 USD - $212,030.00 USD Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
