Join us as a NVQ Assessor We are seeking an experienced and motivated NVQ Assessor to support the delivery and assessment of engineering-based vocational qualifications within the highways electrical and infrastructure sector. The role will focus on assessing learners working in disciplines including traffic signal systems, traffic management technology, electrical infrastructure, and electric vehicle (EV) charging installations. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting learners through their qualification journey, conducting workplace assessments, reviewing evidence, and ensuring compliance with awarding organisation requirements. Applications are welcomed from experienced engineering professionals currently working within the Highways Electrical industry who may not yet hold an assessor qualification. For candidates with the appropriate occupational competence and industry experience, full assessor training and support to achieve the relevant assessor qualification will be provided. This role will require frequent travel to employer and learner locations across the UK. A company car will be provided as part of the employment package to support the travel requirements of the role. The NVQ Assessor will report directly to the NVQ Centre Manager and work collaboratively with employers, learners, and quality assurance personnel to deliver a high-quality assessment service. Responsibilities: Conduct assessments for learners undertaking engineering and work-based NVQ qualifications. Carry out workplace observations and assessments at employer sites throughout the UK. Assess occupational competence in areas including: Traffic signal installation and maintenance Highways electrical systems Electric vehicle charging infrastructure Associated electrical and engineering disciplines Review learner portfolios and evidence against qualification standards. Provide timely feedback, coaching and guidance to learners. Monitor learner progress and maintain achievement targets. Ensure all assessment activities comply with awarding organisation and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records using company systems. Liaise regularly with employers and workplace mentors to support learner development. Support internal and external quality assurance activities. Participate in standardisation meetings and continuous professional development activities. Promote a culture of safety, professionalism and quality across all assessment activities. Qualifications & Experience: Essential Requirements Relevant occupational competence within an engineering or electrical discipline. Significant industry experience in a relevant engineering environment. Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within engineering environments. Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage a caseload and work independently. Competent in the use of Microsoft Office. Full UK driving licence. Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK, including overnight stays where required Highly Desirable Experience working within the Highways Electrical industry, including: Traffic signal systems Electric vehicle charging infrastructure Experience with the installation, commissioning, maintenance or inspection of electric vehicle charging equipment and, or traffic signals. Knowledge of National Highways and local authority highways electrical standards and practices. Previous experience assessing vocational qualifications or supporting apprenticeships and work-based learning programmes. Assessor Qualification Hold a recognised Assessor qualification. OR Demonstrate substantial occupational competence and experience within the Highways Electrical industry and be willing to undertake assessor training. Full training and support to achieve a recognised assessor qualification will be provided for suitable candidates. Desirable Qualifications Internal Quality Assurance qualification (IQA) or willingness to work towards obtaining one. Relevant engineering or electrical qualification at Level 3 or above.
