The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND . Your Responsibilities As a Part Time Student for John Deere located in Champaign , IL , supporting research in conjunction with the University of Illinois, you will: Support the development and evaluation of technologies that will enable automation and autonomy solutions for John Deere products. Analyze image, video, GPS, machine telemetry, and sensor data collected from field operations. Assist in creating and maintaining datasets used for computer vision and machine learning model development. Support data annotation, quality assurance, and validation efforts for perception and analytics projects. Develop software tools and scripts to automate data processing, visualization, and reporting workflows. Evaluate model and algorithm performance using field-collected data and benchmark datasets. Assist with field testing activities, including equipment setup, data collection, troubleshooting, and post-test analysis. Create technical documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate project findings and recommendations. Collaborate with robotics, computer vision, software, and product engineering teams to improve tillage performance solutions. Support research and prototyping efforts related to machine perception, agricultural automation, and precision agriculture technologies. This position is not available to students on immigration visas What Skills You Need Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Data Science, or a related technical field. Understanding of machine learning fundamentals, neural networks, and model development workflows. Experience working with real-world data through academic projects, internships, research, or personal projects. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Graduation date of May 2027 or later. Available to work during the academic year (15-20 hours weekly). Available to work during the summer semester (30-40 hours weekly). Must be registered as a full-time student at a U.S/local accredited university/college Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above. Must be able to commute to the work location in Champaign,IL on a daily basis. NOTE: Relocation assistance is not provided. What Makes You Stand Out Experience working with agricultural equipment, field research, or precision agriculture technologies. Experience analyzing GPS, CAN, IMU, or machine telemetry data. Experience creating dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI, Tableau, Python, or similar tools. Familiarity with Git, software development workflows, and version control. Hands-on experience with data collection systems, cameras, sensors, or robotics platforms. Experience conducting field experiments and interpreting engineering test results. Passion for agriculture, automation, robotics, and solving real-world customer problems.
