Job description
Summary Postdoctoral Associate position is available in Dr. Yi Zhu’s lab at the Children’s Nutrition Research Center to understand the mechanisms of current weight-loss drugs and seeks more effective strategies to achieve durable weight reduction. The lab research has focus on the gap junction protein Connexin43 and the extracellular matrix component hyaluronan in metabolic organs and inter-organ crosstalk, within the context of systemic metabolism. The lab employs a broad range of approaches, including biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture, imaging, and rodent physiology. More recently, the efforts have shifted toward incretin biology and bioengineering with the ultimate goal to develop novel concepts and biologics for treating obesity and related diseases. Lab websites: https://www.bcm.edu/research/faculty-labs/yi-zhu-lab https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=lOd4KJMAAAAJ&hl=en The Postdoctoral Associate will engineer novel mouse models to elucidate the intrinsic mechanisms of incretin processing and to define optimized hormone patterns for weight loss. Based on insights from transgenic animal studies, the lab will also design and evaluate new biologics for treating obesity and related diseases. Baylor College of Medicine typically follows similar to the NIH stipulated stipend guidelines for Postdoctoral Associates. Job Duties Carries out cell culture and routine molecular biology procedures such as DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, qPCR, western blotting, ELISA, and immunofluorescence staining. Conducts literature searches and develops new biochemical assays in the lab. Carries out animal studies. Collects, compiles, analyzes data, documents, and interprets the results of experiments and report to the principal investigator. Composes and publishes manuscripts and present scientific discoveries at internal or national meetings. Applies for extramural postdoctoral fellow funding. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field. No experience required.
