Job description
ABOUT US
Transmutex is a Swiss company founded in 2019. Transmutex is currently advancing the HI-BEAM (High Intensity Breakthrough Engineering for Advanced Medicine) project, an ambitious programme to develop an industrial-scale facility for the reliable production of medical-grade Actinium-225 (Ac-225), a critical radionuclide for emerging targeted alpha therapies.
Our team spans nuclear physics, engineering, software, radiochemistry, pharmaceutical and industrial development. Working with research labs and industrial partners worldwide, we are building the production capacity needed for the next generation of cancer treatments.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As the HI-BEAM project progresses from conceptual design into experimental validation, Transmutex is expanding its radiochemistry capability to translate established laboratory methods—supported by collaboration with leading international research institutes—into automated, reproducible, and commercially viable production processes.
We are seeking a Senior radiochemist to actively contribute to the technical design of Transmutex’ s radiochemistry process, in strong collaboration with renowned research labs. You will report to the Head of Extraction unit and be part of a small international team
You will primarily be based in Vernier, GE, with regular travel to Villigen, AG and to partner research labs in North America.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Process development:
Design and optimize radiochemical separation and purification.
Collaborate across teams to develop radiochemical processes and methodology.
Perform radiochemical and chemical analyses, including alpha and gamma spectrometry.
Track radiochemistry developments and adopt relevant innovations and best practices.
Industrialization and operations:
Develop the radiochemical process flowsheet, including unit operations, process parameters, material balances, cycle times and waste streams.
cale up and transfer laboratory processes to a robust and GMP-compliant production line.
Define process, equipment, utility, instrumentation and facility-interface requirements.
Support equipment selection, sizing, qualification, commissioning and process validation.
Develop operating procedures, batch records, control strategies and consumables requirements.
Prepare laboratory and production operations aligned with capacity and customer needs.
Train and mentor colleagues.
Compliance, quality, and safety:
Work with QA and Safety to ensure regulatory compliance and meet applicable standards
Implement and monitor safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
The candidates we are looking for must have:
PhD or Master’s degree in Radiochemistry, Nuclear Chemistry or related field
A minimum of 10 years of experience in radiochemistry.
Proven experience in radiochemical separation and purification with strong knowledge of actinide chemistry.
In-depth understanding of radiochemistry processes, equipment and tools.
Mastery of Characterization, Alpha or gamma spectrometry, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, liquid scintillation counting, or comparable analytical techniques.
Demonstrated knowledge of safety, radioprotection and GMP regulations and requirements.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to collaborate effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders across disciplines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex technical challenges.
Proven experience in translating lab-scale processes to GMP production line would be an asset
Fluent in English. Excellent knowledge of French or German would be an asset
