Job description
FactSet creates flexible, open data and software solutions for over 200,000 investment professionals worldwide, providing instant access to financial data and analytics that investors use to make crucial decisions. At FactSet, our values are the foundation of everything we do. They express how we act and operate , serve as a compass in our decision-making, and play a big role in how we treat each other, our clients, and our communities. We believe that the best ideas can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time, and that curiosity is the key to anticipating our clients’ needs and exceeding their expectations. About the Job The FactSet Engineering team is composed of highly talented and motivated individuals primarily selected from top-tier technical programs around the world. We believe this approach fosters the continual introduction of new technologies and ideas, which has been critical to our success. Our engineers believe that a key to their, and FactSet's, success is creating a loose team environment in which everyone can contribute individually, yet at the same time cultivate a community where engineers can depend on each other for help, learning, and development. The Software Engineering group is focused on creating and maintaining financial applications and database systems as well as building the backend support that allows our systems to run effectively. As part of the team, you will work closely with other departments within the company to ensure that FactSet's products and technologies are responsive to the changing needs of the investment community. Symbology Direct Feeds – Group Description Symbology Direct Feeds maintains update systems for various content sets at FactSet. The team processes feed files that are translated into symbols used to gather information such as corporate actions, listing availability, and name changes. The primary areas of focus include products such as FactSet ID, Fixed Income, Options, and Futures. Data produced by the team is consumed across different FactSet applications including Workstation, FactSet Web, and Excel via APIs. The team also develops and maintains Symbology Editors that internal teams use to view and manage data through a comprehensive GUI. As the financial technology landscape continues to evolve rapidly — particularly with the growing influence of AI-driven workflows and tooling — our team is equally committed to staying ahead of these changes. We are looking for engineers who are not only strong in our core technical stack but are also curious, adaptable, and eager to explore and integrate emerging technologies into our day-to-day engineering practices. Role Overview FactSet is searching for Software Engineers with strong programming skills and a solid understanding of object-oriented concepts. The engineer will focus on creating and maintaining efficient data update processes in the form of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines, as well as producing timely reports reflecting data changes from update processes. They will collaborate with various stakeholders — including product developers, internal teams, and clients — to deliver accurate, transformed data loaded from data feed acquisitions. Responsibilities also include developing web tools that uphold the integrity of the data we manage. Candidates will work alongside other Symbology teams based in the US and London on product integration and enhancements. Work Schedule & On-Call Responsibilities Given the global nature of our operations, this role requires a degree of schedule flexibility to ensure effective collaboration with our counterparts in the US and London. The following working arrangements apply: Shift Hours: The engineer will be required to start their shift between 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Philippine Standard Time (PST) . This shift structure is designed to create meaningful overlap with our teams abroad and ensure continuity of communication and collaboration across time zones. Work Arrangement: This role follows a Hybrid setup , requiring engineers to be onsite at the Manila office 2 days per week , with the remaining 3 days worked remotely . Specific onsite days will be coordinated with the team and may be adjusted based on business needs, sprint ceremonies, or key project milestones. Candidates must have a reliable internet connection and a suitable remote work environment for their work-from-home days to ensure uninterrupted productivity and availability during on-call rotations. On-Call Coverage: The engineer will participate in an on-call rotation on a daily basis , covering Manila business hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM PHT . During on-call shifts, the engineer is expected to monitor systems, respond to alerts, and triage any data or pipeline issues that may arise in a timely manner. Candidates who are comfortable working in a globally distributed team environment and can manage their time effectively across overlapping time zones will thrive in this role. Core Job Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or equivalent 3–5 years of industry experience (for experienced hires) Advanced proficiency in Perl and Python — these are the primary languages used by the team and are considered non-negotiable requirements Strong working knowledge of SQL Server for database design, querying, and performance optimization Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns Experience leading or contributing to large-scale projects and products Proven ability to work effectively in an Agile environment Strong communication skills — written and verbal A collaborative team-player mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving Comfortable with on-call responsibilities and able to respond promptly and calmly under pressure during system incidents or data anomalies Nice-to-Have Skills & Emerging Technology Competencies We recognize that the technology landscape is shifting quickly, especially with the rise of AI-assisted development and cloud-native architectures. While not required, the following competencies are highly desirable and will set strong candidates apart: Web Development Experience building or consuming REST APIs (e.g., Flask, FastAPI, or similar frameworks) Frontend development experience (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js) is a welcomed bonus, particularly for candidates interested in contributing to our internal GUI tools Cybersecurity Awareness Familiarity with secure coding practices and principles (e.g., OWASP guidelines) Understanding of data security, access control , and compliance considerations within financial data environments Experience with vulnerability scanning tools or security-aware CI/CD pipelines AWS Cloud Services Hands-on experience with AWS products such as Lambda, S3, RDS, EC2, or similar services Familiarity with cloud-native development patterns and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., CloudFormation, Terraform) AI-Assisted Development & Tooling Demonstrated experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI code completion tools to improve development efficiency Practical experience using Anthropic Claude or similar large language model (LLM) tools for tasks such as code review, documentation, data analysis, or rapid prototyping General comfort working in AI-augmented workflows — we expect this to become an increasingly important part of how our team operates, and we value engineers who embrace this shift thoughtfully and responsibly Why Join Us FactSet continues to invest in its people and technology.
