Sr. Specialist, Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Title: Spec, Quality Engr Job Code: QEP4 Job Location: Clifton, NJ Job Schedule: 9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days- totaling 80 hours worked- and have every other Friday off Job Description: This position is responsible for quality improvement issues related to suppliers and/or subcontractors of materials, products or services used in development or manufacturing and responsible for managing incoming material discrepancies. Essential Functions: • Lead supplier quality activities across multiple programs with minimal supervision. • Serve as the primary quality interface between suppliers and internal cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, and program management. • Drive supplier corrective action requests, root cause analysis, containment, and verification of permanent corrective actions. • Assess supplier performance, identify risk areas, and develop mitigation and recovery plans to support program execution and delivery commitments. • Conduct supplier evaluations, audits, and process reviews to ensure compliance with quality requirements, specifications, and contractual expectations. • Monitor supplier quality metrics and performance trends to proactively address issues affecting cost, quality, and schedule. • Support material review board activities, nonconformance resolution, and disposition coordination with internal stakeholders and suppliers. • Partner with sourcing and supply chain teams to support supplier selection, qualification, development, and performance improvement efforts. • Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, flow-down requirements, and quality clauses to ensure supplier compliance. • Provide leadership in resolving complex supplier-related issues that impact production, product acceptance, and customer commitments. • Support production readiness, first article inspections, process validation, and implementation of quality planning requirements as needed. • Coordinate and communicate supplier quality status, risks, and corrective action progress to program and functional leadership. • Travel to supplier locations as required to support audits, investigations, source inspections, and recovery efforts. • Act as an independent, experienced resource capable of prioritizing and executing day-to-day supplier quality responsibilities across a demanding, fast-paced environment. • Willingness to travel up to 25% percent • Active secret clearance Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in: Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in supporting design, development, manufacturing and/or supplier quality activities OR, Master’s Degree in: Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in supporting design, development, manufacturing and/or supplier quality activities. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills: • Ability to focus, prioritize, and multi-task successfully to drive projects to closure • Ability to perform trend analysis • Ability to work in a team environment • Working knowledge of PPAP implementation and associated elements • Experience with Predictive Quality and problem-solving methodologies • ISO9001/AS9100 and process audit experience • Interactive skills, strong written and communication skills • Supplier Development and Engagement experience • Experience presenting to upper-level management • Experience with Predictive Quality • Lean Concepts • Commodity management experience • Supplier Development and Engagement experience • Special process audit experience • ZDP Project Management • Working knowledge in the areas of Supplier Selection & Assessments, First Article Inspection validation, Sub-tier Supplier Management, Special Process Management, Contract Review/Flow down and Counterfeit Parts Avoidance. • Proficient computer skills to include the use of MS Office Professional Suite and the ability to quickly learn systems and software required to perform job duties. • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively plan and prioritize tasks. • Experience to include demonstrated knowledge in Machining & Fabrication, CCA manufacturing, PWB, Cables/Connectors or electronics assembly and performing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) using standard RCA tools In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $96k - $178k.
