Steel Fabrication & Fitting Technician

Structural Steel Fitter Location: Cocoa, FL Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Shifts Available: 1st and 2nd Shift Pay Rate: Up to $26.00/hour, depending on experience 2nd Shift Differential: Additional $3.00/hour Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Structural Steel Fitter to join our team. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, measuring and preparing materials, and fitting, aligning, and assembling steel components to meet precise specifications. Structural steel fitting experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with transferable experience in fitting, fabrication, metalworking, or similar manufacturing roles are encouraged to apply. This is an entirely shop-based position. No travel or fieldwork is required. Responsibilities Review blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine material dimensions and assembly requirements. Measure, mark, cut, and prepare steel using hand tools and shop equipment. Fit, position, align, and assemble steel components according to specifications. Operate oxyacetylene torches, plasma cutters, drill presses, angle presses, and fitting jigs. Use tape measures, squares, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and alignment. Inspect completed assemblies for accuracy and quality. Coordinate with coworkers and supervisors to meet production schedules. Keep the work area organized and follow established safety procedures. Qualifications Experience in structural steel fitting, fabrication, metalworking, or a related manufacturing role is preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications. Knowledge of measuring, cutting, positioning, and assembling metal components. Familiarity with fabrication tools and equipment, including torches, plasma cutters, and presses. Strong attention to detail and measurement accuracy. Good communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to workplace safety. Additional Requirements Willingness to complete a pre-employment drug test and/or background check, as applicable. Ability to work in a shop-based manufacturing environment. Availability for either first or second shift.
