Summer/Fall Field Opportunities - Confined Space Entry Technicians (Temporary)

Vertex is offering summer/fall field employment opportunities within our Tank Cleaning Division , ideal for apprentice Pipefitters, Welders, Boilermakers and Mechanical Trades looking to gain real-world industrial experience. The role provides valuable hands on exposure to confined space entry , industrial cleaning operations and safety-critical work environments - experience that directly supports long-term careers in the trades. Successful candidates will work alongside experienced teams on active projects and gain practical skills that strengthen apprenticeship and field resumes. This is temporary, project-based work with projects anticipated to run throughout the summer and fall season. Opportunity Details Start Date: September 8, 2026 (Project Based) Duration: Estimated 20 Days Location: Multiple projects within the Fort McMurray, AB area Meeting Location : Nisku, AB (Transportation provided from Nisku, AB) Accommodations: Camp accommodations will be provided Employment Type: Temporary Project Based / Summer and Fall Employment Compensation: Competitive Who This Role is For This position is well suited for: Apprentice Pipefitters Apprentice Welders Apprentice Boilermakers Mechanical / Industrial Trades Apprentices Trades students seeking summer field exposure Previous confined space experience is considered an asset but not mandatory - site safety training and orientation will be provided. Duties and Responsibilities Work in confined spaces for shifts of up to 2 hours Wash, scrape and drain tank interiors using a variety of special tools and pressure washers Participate in the installation and removal of energy isolation devices, blanks, blinds, etc. Rig in / rig out ventilation, wash and vacuum equipment Accurately report conditions within confined spaces Assist confined space entry personnel in donning and doffing required PPE when entering and exiting confined space when not in confined space Perform assigned emergency response roles including confined space rescue Actively participate in safety meetings, tool box meetings, permit and hazard assessment reviews Prepare hazard assessments as appropriate Maintain composure during high-stress and multi-tasking challenges Support cleaning of respiratory protective equipment Complete required inspection records for PPE and equipment Complete required inventory of trailers daily and at end of the project Support outside of space operations, maintaining support equipment in berm/work area as directed Candidate Qualifications Interest in gaining industrial field experience Comfortable working in physically demanding environments Physically able to lift and carry up to 45 kg Ability to stand, crouch, kneel and work for extended periods Able to follow direction and work as part of a team Willing and able to work away from home in Northern Alberta for the entirety of the projects Ability to provide own transportation to mobilization site in Nisku Willingness to stay in local accommodations when required (if applicable) A core requirement of this role is entering confined tanks for cleaning while utilizing a supplied-air breathing apparatus/mask; candidates must be completely comfortable in tight spaces and experienced or highly comfortable working under respirator air Safety & Training Requirements The following are required (Training provided by Vertex where noted): Clean Drug & Alcohol Testing (Provided by Vertex) Clean Shaven Fit Testing (Provided by Vertex) Pre-Access Orientation (Provided by Vertex) Required Safety Tickets (Can be obtained prior to start): Energy Safety Canada H2S Alive Energy Safety Canada Confined Space Entry and Monitor CSO (Common Safety Orientation) CSTS 2020 Assets to Have (Considered an Advantage) Class 5 Driver's License Energy Safety Canada Fall Protection Energy Safety Canada Mobile Platforms First Aid with AED Previous industrial, mechanical or construction experience Why Join Vertex for the Summer/Fall?
