What To Expect
The Technical Writer will work alongside Engineers and other Technical Writers to document the details of manufacturing processes and equipment operation. The ideal candidate is familiar with technical writing and can quickly capture information with notes, recordings, and photographs, and then transform this information into clear Manufacturing Instructions (MIs), visual aids, training checklists, and maintenance instructions. MIs are the singular record of how Tesla’s products are assembled, making them the processes that hundreds of our Production Associates follow.
What You'll Do
Format and edit digital images, including image size and resolution, color brightness and contrast, rotation and cropping, etc.
Research and gather information, working with subject matter experts (SMEs), product teams, and other internal/external sources to understand technical details
Translate complex information, breaking down complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language for the target audience
Organize and structure content, present information logically, ensuring accessibility and readability
Edit and proofread, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to style guides and industry standards
Analyze existing processes, identifying bottlenecks, and developing solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness
Coordinate with training and nesting team members and provide ongoing support, ensuring they are up to date with the current process and working closely with different departments streamlining operations and implementing process improvements
What You'll Bring
Experience creating process documentation that clearly and efficiently communicates concepts, ideas, and instructions
Excellent listening and observation skills, organized with meticulous attention to detail, and ability to translate verbal information into clearly written procedure
Demonstrated excellence in digital photography including but not limited to the following: still and motion photography, attention to aspect ratio and subject framing, ability to use macro features to capture close-up detail, and manipulation of files between camera and computer
Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is a plus
Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings is a plus
Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines (simultaneously managing multiple documentation projects)
Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with a proficiency in English grammar, spelling and punctuation
