Open to: Division-WideWork Week: NE (35-hour) Work WeekSalary: (P22) $69,668.20 - $101,950.90 Opening Date: 10/06/2026Closing Date: 10/20/2026Existing Vacancies: 3Program/LocationDepartment of Environmental ProtectionWater Resource ManagementWater QualityEnvironmental Engineering and Permitting401 East State Street, 3rd FloorTrenton, NJ 08625Scope of EligibilityOpen to permanent employees in a competitive title who work for the Division of Water Quality and meet the requirements below.DescriptionUnder limited supervision of a supervisory official in a state department, institution, agency, or local government agency, performs professional engineering work including but not limited to water management, air pollution control/management, noise pollution control/management, coastal resource management, hazardous/non-hazardous waste control/management; reviews engineering plans, makes determinations and/or recommendations on plans; field visits, inspections, investigations/surveys; gathers data, researches and analyzes information as it relates to environmental control work; and/or the enforcement of environmental laws and/or regulations; works with Environmental Impact Statements; does related work as required.Specific to the PositionAs an engineer within the Division of Water Quality, duties and responsibilities include the review and approval of engineering plans and specifications to ensure compliance with state and federal rules and regulations related to the Water Bank Financing Program of much needed, critical, and, at times, very complicated water, wastewater, and stormwater projects. This involves expert knowledge of not only engineering, but of the administrative and legal requirements of the program. Responsibilities also include overall project management.RequirementsEDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Ocean, Coastal, Bio-Resource, Sanitary, Industrial, Agricultural or Mining Engineering, or other field of engineering related to the environment.NOTE: A valid Professional Engineer's license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering.EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental engineering work.NOTE: A Master's degree in one of the fields specified above may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience.NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting.
