Job description

Job Overview Democracy Docket is seeking a YouTube Producer to continue building our YouTube presence and create timely, news-driven content that turns complex legal and political developments into informative and engaging videos that a broad audience can follow. This role is ideal for a talented, hands-on producer with strong news instincts and a real feel for how news channels grow on YouTube – packaging, speed and formats that both catch a news cycle and outlast it. The YouTube Producer owns the end-to-end process for our channel, from ideation to publishing, and works closely with Democracy Docket founder Marc Elias on producing news commentary and guest interview videos. The role reports to the Director of Audience Growth and collaborates regularly across editorial, video, social and subscription & product teams. Responsibilities Develop the channel's content slate, aligned with the organization’s mission and editorial priorities, including breaking-news response, guest interviews, recurring formats and commentary topics. Work closely with Democracy Docket founder Marc Elias to produce commentary and interview videos, including researching topics and guests, prepping interview questions and angles and hosting recording sessions. Package videos – write titles and descriptions, collaborate on thumbnail production and A/B test as needed. Oversee scheduling and day-to-day workflow coordination, keeping production timelines on track. Turn long-form videos into short-form clips, in partnership with the social team – spotting the moments worth clipping, coordinating how clips are packaged and where they are distributed. Work closely with the video editor to review and approve cuts and edits; edit as needed. Use YouTube Studio and analytics to evaluate video performance, guide content strategy and report on channel growth. Manage video logistics, including equipment, software and production schedules. Work with the Subscription & Product team on video-driven distribution and conversion goals. Qualifications 4+ years of experience in video production, with direct experience producing content for YouTube in a news, media, or political context. Strong editorial instinct, including the ability to move quickly around breaking news. Demonstrated experience developing long-form YouTube content. Fluency with YouTube best practices. Comfortable working with on-camera talent and senior stakeholders. Experience using video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro) and remote recording tools like Riverside. Strong understanding of digital media trends and audience engagement strategies. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Passionate about voting rights and democracy. Work Environment This is a full-time role based out of our Jersey City office. Our core business hours are 9am-6pm, and we currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. REQUIRED: To apply, please complete the application and attach a resume and cover letter.
