About the Role - Tēnei tūranga: The Planning and Performance Business Management team is a small team dedicated to the success of the People and Culture Branch. We help the Branch deliver through business planning, tracking and reporting, risk management, corporate accountability, and practical business support. As Business Advisor, you will be a trusted advisor to the Business Manager and a key contributor to the team. Working closely with the Senior Business Advisor, Business Manager and subject matter experts across People and Culture, you will help ensure our advice, services and business management products are consistent, customer-focused and fit for purpose. In this varied role, you will: Maintain and improve key Branch products, including the business continuity plan, risk register and policy work programme Coordinate high-quality information for Select Committee processes, Official Information Act and Privacy Act requests, parliamentary questions, ministerial briefings, and proactive information releases Support Branch contract management, including advice on complex service engagements and procurement planning Broker support from teams across MBIE, including Procurement, Finance, Communications, Design and ICT Lead or support projects and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen customer focus, branch operations and service delivery MBIE supports a range of flexible working arrangements. Skills and Experience Required - Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana We are looking for someone who brings: Experience in business management and administration within a Public Service environment, with an understanding of the wider organisational context A strong understanding of machinery of government processes, including Cabinet and parliamentary processes, accountability, performance reporting and financial management Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple demands and deliver quality work to timeframes Clear written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to tailor advice for different audiences A strong customer service mindset and a proven ability to build trusted relationships with managers, staff and specialist service teams You will also be confident using Microsoft Office and common digital platforms, adaptable in learning new technology, and proactive in identifying practical ways to connect people with the services and support they need. You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
