LEGAL COUNSEL - PERMANENT - PERTH We are seeking a Legal Counsel for a permanent opportunity to partner with the business in delivering pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice that supports Western Power’s strategic objectives. In this role, you will help navigate legal risk, strengthen compliance, and provide trusted guidance that enables informed decision-making across a broad range of operational, commercial and corporate matters. Your Role in Action Provide trusted, commercially focused legal advice across a diverse range of operational, commercial and corporate matters, helping the business make informed decisions and effectively manage legal risk. Build strong partnerships with stakeholders across Western Power, delivering practical legal solutions that balance compliance requirements with business objectives. Support major strategic initiatives and projects by providing timely legal guidance, risk assessments and commercially sound recommendations. Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of contracts, commercial arrangements and legal documentation, managing complex third-party relationships where required. Lead and coordinate external legal advisers, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective outcomes and the seamless integration of external advice into business operations. Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance legal services, processes, systems, precedents and knowledge-sharing across the organisation. Deliver training, coaching and expert guidance on legal, governance and compliance matters, building capability and legal awareness across the business. Contribute to a culture of integrity, customer focus and accountability by ensuring legal matters are managed professionally, efficiently and in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and professional obligations. What Makes You a Great Fit Admitted legal practitioner with a current practising certificate and tertiary qualifications in Law from a recognised common law jurisdiction. Strong experience providing commercially focused legal advice across areas such as energy, commercial contracting, construction, compliance, employment, property and/or dispute resolution. Proven ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, risk-based advice that supports informed business decision-making. Highly developed stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for presenting legal advice clearly, concisely and in plain English. Organised, adaptable and solutions-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement and deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
