Title: Manager, Cardiac Sonography Services Location: Upper East Side Org Unit: Echo Operations Work Days: Weekly Hours: 35.00 Exemption Status: Exempt Salary Range: $137,400.00 - $161,600.00 *As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices Position Summary Functions as the operational, administrative, and clinical management leader for echocardiography laboratory and cardiovascular ultrasound services across multiple clinical sites. Working in partnership with and under the strategic direction of the Chief Echocardiography Sonographer and physician leadership, this role is responsible for the day-to-day management of echocardiography operations, staff supervision, quality monitoring, workflow optimization, accreditation readiness, and implementation of departmental initiatives. The Manager ensures efficient operations, consistent clinical standards, exceptional patient experience, and achievement of departmental performance goals while supporting the ongoing advancement of cardiovascular imaging services. Job Responsibilities Manages daily operations of echocardiography and cardiovascular ultrasound services across multiple clinical sites. Serves as a technical expert and operational resource for echocardiographic imaging standards, cardiovascular ultrasound protocols, and image acquisition quality. Collaborates with cardiologists, electrophysiology, structural heart, adult congenital, advanced heart failure, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy teams to support advanced imaging services for complex patient populations and pathologies. Oversees implementation of advanced echocardiographic techniques including strain imaging, contrast-enhanced studies, stress echocardiography, and emerging cardiovascular imaging technologies Responsible for staffing selection, addressing performance issues, and staff terminations in accordance with policies and procedures. Supports succession planning and professional development initiatives in collaboration with the Chief Echocardiography Sonographer. Oversees workflow management, patient throughput, scheduling, staffing assignments, and resource utilization to ensure efficient delivery of services. Develops and implements operational workflows and process improvements in alignment with departmental goals and strategic priorities established by the Chief Echocardiography Sonographer and clinical leadership. Implements, maintains, and monitors adherence to echocardiography imaging protocols, reporting standards, and quality control processes in collaboration with the Chief Sonographer and cardiology leadership. Coordinates laboratory accreditation activities, including preparation, submission, and ongoing compliance with Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) standards under the direction of the Chief Sonographer and clinical leadership. Monitors laboratory performance indicators such as report turnaround times, study appropriateness, repeat exam rates, and accreditation quality benchmarks. Develops corrective action plans and process improvement initiatives based on quality data and regulatory requirements. Assists in the development and administration of departmental operating and capital budgets. Monitors service volumes, access metrics, productivity, and operational performance indicators and recommends process improvements. Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency while maintaining high-quality cardiovascular diagnostic services. Directs staff education, competency assessment, mentoring, and continuing education programs to ensure ongoing clinical excellence and compliance with professional standards. Establishes and monitors sonographer competency standards for routine and advanced cardiac imaging procedures. Ensures staff professional education requirements are met and maintained, including applicable licensure, certification and/or accreditation standards. Ensures staff compliance with clinical/operational protocols, policies and procedures. Oversees echocardiography quality assurance and quality improvement programs, including image quality review, interpretation correlation studies, sonographer performance metrics, and compliance with laboratory standards. Ensures echocardiography examinations meet established image quality, technical accuracy, and reporting standards prior to physician interpretation. Ensures adherence to American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) guidelines and applicable accreditation requirements. Functions in full capacity as a diagnostic cardiac sonographer and performs advanced echocardiographic examinations as operational needs require. Provides technical guidance, scanning support, and clinical assistance to sonographers for complex examinations. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA) and practice policies and procedures. Assists with the education and training of sonography students and physician residents. Provides oversight of clinical placement for student sonographers. Leads evaluation, selection, acquisition, and implementation of cardiovascular ultrasound equipment and imaging technologies. Education Bachelor's Degree in healthcare, healthcare management or imaging Experience Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible cardiovascular ultrasound experience in a high-volume academic medical center or tertiary cardiovascular program. Additional certification and experience in vascular ultrasound is preferred. Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory, leadership, or management experience within an echocardiography laboratory. Demonstrated experience managing advanced echocardiography services, including stress echocardiography, contrast studies, and quantitative imaging applications. Experience with accreditation activities, quality management programs, and laboratory performance improvement initiatives preferred. Prospective candidates must demonstrate successful completion of at least 2 registries with 100% competency and independent performance of all exams in those specialty areas performed in the laboratory. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated leadership competencies, including ability to motivate staff, excellent organizational skills, and ability to work effectively as a member of a team, in a busy, fast paced environment. Ability to foster a collaborative atmosphere with other members of the healthcare team. Demonstrated proficiency with computer skills and software programs used for documentation activities and report generation. Licenses and Certifications BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association, is preferred. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) preferred Working Conditions/Physical Demands Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to move 350 pound wheeled equipment as needed. Ability to travel to various work locations and work variable shifts as needed.
