Job Overview The Manufacturing Engineer has broad responsibilities that cover research and development of methods to build and ship products, proper use and maintenance of equipment & machinery, and optimization of product assembly, testing & validation processes. Responsibilities include productivity increases, cycle time improvements, shop methods/procedures control, facilities layout and assembly line configuration, definition & implementation of plant & equipment inspection & maintenance, and troubleshooting issues involving plant equipment, machinery, and tooling. A Day In The Life Coordinate with Aclara Meters COE and AMP Manufacturing and Quality teams on the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies to facilitate Aclara meter production and processing of customer returns. Work with Aclara Engineering, Product Management, and AMP Quality and Manufacturing teams for local implementation of Engineering Change Notices, AMI factory integrations, new product catalog numbers/configurations, and pilot runs and commercial production of new products. Specify technical requirements for new equipment and tooling to meet production and quality requirements in collaboration with Aclara Meters COE and AMP Quality and Manufacturing teams. Development of new test procedures and protocols as necessary to validate product and/or system performance in coordination with AMP Quality and Manufacturing teams. Adapt machine or equipment design to local factory, labor, and production conditions. Provide support in reviewing, designing, fabrication, and troubleshooting of test equipment. Develop and maintain software for programmable instruments and test setups where applicable. Provide support in the development and maintenance of work instructions, methods & procedures for meter manufacturing processes and associated equipment, including the conduct of Job Safety Analysis for each of the relevant processes, methods & procedures. Provide inputs in the development of plant & equipment inspection & maintenance plans & schedules. Provide technical support and expert guidance on plant & equipment to the Maintenance team as may be required. Develop training plans for production personnel on manufacturing equipment and procedures, for review and approval by AMP Quality and Manufacturing teams; participate in the training of operators, as may be required. Prioritize and implement multiple concurrent process improvement projects, alone or as part of a multifunctional team, to drive customer satisfaction and business productivity. Analyze manufacturing data to keep processes compliant, improve yields, and increase productivity. Identify, organize, and lead teams to resolve production and product issues. Use JDE, Fusion, Share Point, and other applications to obtain information for the task at hand. Identify and implement cost savings and safety initiatives; drive process improvements to reduce costs and cycle times, improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and enhance operator safety/ergonomics. Support Quality team in the formulation of root-cause analysis and corrective actions for product quality issues and product returns. Perform other tasks and assignments as may be instructed by Aclara and AMP management from time to time. What will help you thrive in this role? Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, preferably Electronics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in performing manufacturing or engineering functions, or in developing production processes Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications. Ability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and provide effective efficient solutions. Firm understanding of EHS principles including the direct application of safety and ergonomics to all processes and equipment. Excellent oral and written communication skills including strength in clear concise technical communications to internal teams, suppliers, and external customers. Proven record of effectively managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy. Skilled in the use of common electronics test equipment Knowledgeable in SPC (Statistical Process Control), Global 8D, VSM (Value Stream Mapping), 5S, FMEA, DOE (Design of Experiments), Lean, and Six Sigma methodology. Knowledge and familiarity with Job Safety Analysis Solid understanding of quality control methods. Strong proficiency with VB.Net and/or C.Net programming (or equivalent) including test hardware and product interfaces. Strong proficiency in MS SQL and Access queries and data mining. Working knowledge of network and server systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Good interpersonal and leadership skills Can work with minimum supervision and willing to work extended hours as needed.
