Job description

ABOUT AIRWALLEX Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own. We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,300 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. Read our operating principles https://www.airwallex.com/en-us/operating-principles to see it in full.   HOW YOU’LL MAKE IMPACT As a key member of Airwallex’s Americas regional team, you’ll own financial controllership across our Americas entities while supporting group-wide reporting, audit, and strategic initiatives. You’ll help ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, strong governance and compliance, and effective partnership across the business. - Own end-to-end financial controllership activities for Airwallex’s Americas entities, supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, strong governance and compliance, and group-wide reporting. - Drive controllership improvement initiatives across the Americas using company-provided AI tools, including process standardisation, automation, documentation, and operational efficiency projects. - Review and prepare monthly financial close activities for Americas entities in close collaboration with the finance shared service centre, while supporting quarterly close and consolidation reviews with Global Controllership and Group Finance. - Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP, local regulatory requirements, internal accounting policies, and reporting obligations to relevant U.S. regulatory bodies and industry partners. Manage periodic statutory audits, regulatory filings, external auditor relationships, and third-party partners. - Partner with Product, Engineering, Business, Revenue Operations, Regulatory Compliance, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Risk, and Operations on new product launches, commercial structures, changes to operational workflows, and regional or group-wide initiatives. You’ll also prepare technical accounting memos covering topics such as revenue recognition, equity compensation, M&A transactions, and financial instruments. - Support the evolving needs of the U.S. business as it scales. You’ll work from our San Francisco office three days a week. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Essentials - A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. - 5+ years of finance or accounting experience. - Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, technical accounting acumen, and the ability to apply accounting standards in a rapidly evolving fintech environment. - Experience working in financial services, fintech, payments, or another regulated industry. - Proven experience in a financial controllership role, with a track record of improving processes and scaling financial operations. - Strong understanding of internal controls, compliance requirements, and reporting frameworks applicable to U.S. financial entities. - Experience supporting complex local or international projects, including systems implementations or operating model transitions. - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively across departments and seniority levels. - The ability to operate independently, demonstrate sound judgment, and navigate ambiguity in a hyper-growth environment. - A creative, proactive, and solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to balance attention to detail and operational efficiency. Preferred - Big Four experience. - CPA or an equivalent qualification. - Experience working with Oracle ERP, Pigment FP&A, Looker dashboards, or similar modern finance tools. YOU’LL THRIVE HERE IF - You own the outcome and you don't wait for permission to fix what's broken. - You're comfortable with ambiguity. Give you a problem, not a prescription, and you'll run with it. - You have experience at a fintech, payments company, or other highly regulated business. - You say what you mean. You're direct, but you lead with respect. - You connect dots across functions and hold the big picture without losing grip on the details.
