The Senior Reporting Lead translates evolving business needs into scalable reporting solutions, ensures data accuracy and clear data lineage, and maintains delivery momentum when priorities or requirements change. The role is expected to be flexible, decisive, and quick to pivot while protecting report quality, controls, usability, and agreed timelines. Position Responsibilities The Senior Reporting Lead owns the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of reporting deliverables within the assigned portfolio. The role sets priorities, allocates work, reviews solutions, resolves delivery issues, and serves as the first line of review for data integrity, report logic, user experience, and supporting documentation. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1) Reporting Solution Design and Delivery Report Development and Enhancement · Lead the end-to-end delivery of dashboards, recurring reports, scorecards, and ad-hoc analytical solutions using Power BI and related Microsoft tools. · Translate business requirements into practical report designs, data models, measures, visualizations, and user experiences. · Review and approve report logic, calculations, filters, drill-through paths, refresh behavior, and presentation before release. · Balance speed, scalability, control, and user needs when determining whether to build, enhance, consolidate, automate, or retire a report. Data Modeling and Analytics · Guide the development of reliable semantic models, relationships, calculated columns, measures, and business definitions. · Ensure metrics are consistently defined and traceable to approved data sources, with clear documentation of assumptions and limitations. · Challenge unusual movements, trends, and exceptions through reasonability checks before reports are distributed. · Promote reusable datasets and common definitions to reduce duplication and conflicting versions of information. Power BI Delivery · Provide advanced oversight and hands-on support for Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service solutions, including DAX, data modeling, visualization design, row-level security, workspace organization, publishing, refresh monitoring, and access coordination. · Establish practical development and review standards that improve performance, maintainability, usability, and consistency across the reporting portfolio. Power Query and Data Preparation · Use and guide the team in Power Query for data extraction, cleansing, transformation, consolidation, and repeatable preparation workflows. · Review query steps, joins, parameters, error handling, and dependencies to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention. Power Apps and Workflow Enablement · Lead or support the design of Power Apps solutions that capture, validate, maintain, or supplement reporting data. · Partner with process owners and technology teams to connect user inputs, approval steps, and reporting outputs in a controlled and user-friendly manner. · Identify appropriate opportunities to integrate Power Apps with Power BI, SharePoint, Excel, Microsoft Lists, and Power Automate where this improves the reporting process. 2) Delivery Management, Agility and Governance Requirements Management · Lead discovery sessions with stakeholders to clarify business questions, success measures, data sources, users, frequency, security needs, and acceptance criteria. · Convert incomplete or changing requests into prioritized requirements, decision logs, prototypes, and manageable delivery increments. · Manage scope changes transparently, communicate impacts, and quickly pivot the team when business priorities shift. Planning and Execution · Maintain a visible portfolio of reporting demand, work in progress, risks, dependencies, and delivery dates. · Allocate resources across BAU reporting, enhancements, defects, and project work based on business value, urgency, complexity, and team capacity. · Use iterative development, early prototypes, and structured user acceptance testing to reduce rework and accelerate stakeholder feedback. · Escalate material risks, data constraints, and conflicting priorities with clear options and recommendations. Quality, Controls and Documentation · Establish quality checks covering source-to-report reconciliation, calculation accuracy, completeness, refresh status, access, presentation, and release readiness. · Ensure solutions have current documentation, including requirements, source mapping, business rules, data lineage, report ownership, refresh procedures, access controls, testing evidence, and change history. · Maintain appropriate segregation of duties and partner with data owners, risk, compliance, and technology teams on control requirements. Reporting Portfolio Management · Regularly assess reports for duplication, usage, relevance, performance, and maintenance effort. · Recommend whether reports should be retained, improved, consolidated, automated, expanded, or retired. · Drive standardization of templates, naming conventions, KPI definitions, and report development practices. 3) People Leadership and Capability Development Team Leadership · Lead, coach, and develop a team of Reporting Analysts, establishing clear accountabilities, delivery expectations, and development objectives. · Create an inclusive, collaborative environment where team members raise risks early, share knowledge, and take ownership of outcomes. · Provide timely feedback, support performance improvement, and build succession and cross-training plans for critical reports and skills. Technical Coaching and Review · Serve as the team’s escalation point for complex Power BI, Power Query, Power Apps, data, and visualization issues. · Conduct design and quality reviews, coach analysts on efficient solution patterns, and encourage reusable components and peer review. · Build capability in requirements elicitation, data storytelling, stakeholder communication, testing, documentation, and production support. Resource and Capacity Management · Assess incoming demand against available capacity and skills; assign work to optimize delivery and development opportunities. · Identify capability gaps and coordinate targeted learning, mentoring, or specialist support. · Manage competing deadlines calmly and make clear trade-offs without compromising critical controls or data quality. 4) Stakeholder Partnership and Continuous Improvement Stakeholder Engagement · Build trusted relationships with Finance leaders, process owners, data owners, technology partners, and report users. · Present complex data and technical considerations in clear business language and tailor communication for operational and executive audiences. · Own responses to stakeholder questions, provide evidence-based explanations, and ensure actions are followed through. Business Insight and Data Storytelling · Help stakeholders move beyond data presentation by highlighting drivers, trends, exceptions, risks, and opportunities. · Ensure dashboards make the most important messages easy to understand and support timely decisions. · Guide the team in selecting meaningful visuals and concise narratives rather than adding unnecessary report complexity. Continuous Improvement and Innovation · Identify opportunities to simplify reporting processes, remove manual steps, strengthen controls, and improve user experience. · Stay current on relevant Microsoft Power Platform capabilities and apply new features when they provide clear business value and meet governance requirements. · Promote experimentation through controlled prototypes, measurable outcomes, and disciplined transition to production. The role sets team priorities, allocates resources, approves solution designs and production releases, and determines the appropriate delivery approach within established data, technology, risk, and access standards. The role can recommend changes to reporting scope, sequencing, platforms, and support models; resolve routine delivery and stakeholder escalations; and escalate enterprise data, architecture, security, or capacity issues to senior leadership.
