SCHOOL OF CREATIVE ARTS ACADEMY OF VISUAL ARTS Senior Research Assistant / Research Assistant (26270241) The Academy of Visual Arts (https://ava.hkbu.edu.hk/en) is one of Hong Kong's leading institutions for visual arts education, offering a rigorous curriculum that combines art historical research, artistic practice, and cultural engagement. With the completion of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity, the Academy is well placed to expand its research capacity and to foster collaboration across a wide range of creative arts disciplines. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in Chinese art history for the position of Senior Research Assistant / Research Assistant. Responsibilities: Support research in Chinese art history, from the early modern period to the contemporary; Assist in implementing project activities, including literature reviews, archival and primary-source research, data collection, transcription, translation, and preliminary textual and qualitative analyses; Assist in preparing manuscripts for academic publication, reports, exhibition and dissemination materials, and research proposals; Provide administrative and logistical support for research activities, exhibitions, workshops, stakeholder engagement, and impact dissemination initiatives; Coordinate communication with project partners, collaborators, stakeholders, and team members on research-related matters; and Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements: A master's degree (a PhD would be an advantage) in art history, history, East Asian studies, or a related discipline, with demonstrated knowledge of Chinese art history; Relevant research experience, preferably with exposure to archival research, textual analysis, and the study of Chinese-language primary sources, and familiarity with standard software for data management and analysis; Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with strong self-motivation, a sense of responsibility, and attention to detail; Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines and adapt to evolving project needs; A commitment to quality education and research excellence, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment; and Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written / skills assessment. Applicants with less experience may be considered for appointment as Research Assistant. The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of one year. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to availability of funding and mutual agreement.
