Cyber Security Engineer

Job Role We're hiring for a Cyber Security Engineer to join our IT Services team, based in Hockley, with hybrid or remote working considered. This is an exciting opportunity for a security professional to play a key role in protecting our organisation and customers from evolving cyber threats, whilst helping to shape and strengthen our security services. In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for operating, improving, and implementing security controls and services across internal and customer environments. You'll work across a broad range of security technologies including Microsoft Sentinel, the Microsoft Defender suite, Huntress, and Tenable, helping to detect, investigate, and respond to security threats whilst continually enhancing our security posture. Working closely with the Head of Cyber Security and wider technical teams, you'll play a crucial role in security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, compliance activities, and the delivery of technical security projects. You'll help ensure our systems remain secure, resilient, and compliant, whilst supporting colleagues and customers with expert security guidance. We're looking for someone with strong technical security knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You'll be comfortable investigating complex issues, implementing security controls, and communicating technical information clearly to a range of audiences. In return for your dedication, knowledge, and commitment, we're offering a competitive salary of £49,000 to £52,500 and a fantastic benefits package including: • 25 days annual leave + Bank Holidays + Birthday Day off (with the opportunity to buy additional days) • 2 Volunteer Days • Pension - 5% Employee / 5% Employer • Healthcare Cash Plan, including 3x salary life assurance • Annual salary review • Refer a friend scheme • Free access to Benefit Hub, including retail discounts, cycle to work scheme, and additional voluntary benefits Location: Hockley (Hybrid/Remote considered) Hours: Full Time, 37 hours per week Contract: Permanent Closing Date: 14th of October 2026 Key Responsibilities • Monitor, manage, and investigate security alerts, incidents, and threats across internal and customer environments. • Administer and optimise security platforms including Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, Huntress, and Tenable. • Conduct technical investigations into suspicious activity, security alerts, and potential breaches. • Support vulnerability management processes, remediation tracking, and security assurance activities. • Deliver technical security projects and implement new security controls, integrations, and monitoring capabilities. • Support Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure, identity, endpoint, and cloud security initiatives. • Contribute to incident response, root cause analysis, and continual security improvement activities. • Produce and maintain accurate documentation, investigation reports, runbooks, and technical guidance. Skills and Experience • Practical experience in cyber security operations, security engineering, SOC, infrastructure security, or a similar role. • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft Defender technologies. • Experience investigating security alerts and incidents using endpoint, identity, cloud, and email telemetry. • Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure, Windows, endpoint, server, and network security. • Experience implementing security controls and delivering technical security projects. • Understanding of vulnerability management and security improvement practices. • Familiarity with Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO27001, NCSC guidance, CIS Controls, or similar frameworks. • Relevant certifications such as Security+, SC-200, CySA+, SSCP, AZ-500, or equivalent would be advantageous.
